Does anyone have any experience of these? They seem to offer up to 4 drives in an external caddy which are available through single eSATA connection. I'm assuming the throughput would be reduced due to the single eSATA connection?
I'm just wondering if these are any good for use with a passively cooled ITX mini server as a NAS (running RAID 1 or 5). It would be almost silent apart from the drives and would run cooler as the drives would then be contained outside of the box containing the CPU.
But how much would performance affected? And would the host machine be able to RAID them?
This is the sort of thing I'm talking about: Icy Dock MB561US-4S-1 Quad Bay External Enclosure
