Hi Guys,

I'm running an Asus P5K with Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 DHX PC2-6400C4DHX. I've only recently upgraded from 2GB to 4GB. Now I'm having real stability problems from within the O/S (XP SP2) The system freezes all the time and restarts itself every now and again for no reason. I had no problems before I had 4GB installed so I'm pretty certain it's to do with this.

Does anyone know why this would be happening? My BIOS settings are all set to default and I can see the whole 4GB. XP can see's 3.25GB of the RAM which is fine as I'd read it can only handle up to 3GB but I'm sure it shouldn'r crash like this.

I had a quick look on the forums here and was unable to see anything on this so maybe someone could help?

Thanks.

It's not an XP problem - the RAM is making your system unstable. Try increasing the memory or northbridge voltage slightly, or relaxing the memory timings. If that fails then try the sticks individually to see if any are broken.

Well, I changed my FSB Frequency to 266MHZ and this appears to to be making things more stable. Not sure why though?

What about page file wise? What should I now change this to on a 4GB system?

So I managed to get a stable set-up (well I thought it was) for a few days. I configured my BIOS as per the stated settings on my RAM. It still freezes way more then it should though. I've got back to 2 GIG for now.

Faulty RAM? I doubt it. What else could it be?

If it is the new RAM then you could test it separately using Memtest to see if there are any errors on it. With the 4GB, is that the Corsair 2x2GB matched pair?
