4 modules - 2T timing

I'd like to up my mem from 1 to 2 GB. How significant is the performance decrease when going from 1T to 2T command rate when 4 modules are installed on an A64 PC (4000+ @ 2.9)?

I can't say from experience, but at a guess, with less memory hungry games you may lose a few fps with little gain on loading times. With big games like BF2 and Oblivion, the few fps you might lose from the timings will be outweighed by the gain in loading times and smoother gameplay.

When you say smoother gameplay, is that just less pauses for loading?

If the game uses large textures for example, then it will have to page them to the hdd, with more ram it wont havt to do this

Your about right !
I use 4 sticks of CORSAIR DDR XMS3500LL Pro & BF2 loads maps much faster than when i just has 2 and Alt Tab out of it is much faster i dont notice any fps loss as it must be tiny.
Also some other things are just that bit more responsive.

Do you think it's important to get the same modules if you run 4? I am just running value stuff at the mo (OCZ Premier), so would other sticks which run the same timings do OK? My overclock leaves the RAM at near 200 MHz.

And with that post i've been promoted!

looking at that article, getting a 2 x 1gb kit means 2-3% better than 4x512 - in some games. Also, they set all their sticks (4x512 or 2x1024) at the same timings, and you have to spend a fair bit to get 2gb kits with better timings than my value RAM, so I wonder if it would actually make any difference going 2T as I'd keep better timings with another 2 cheapo sticks. hmmm.

i use 4 sticks of ram and i get no problems at 2t.

although if you have 2 sticks of ram and can do 1t command rate then the only real difference you will see in speed is in your super Pi times.

With my system i see massive hit in 3dmark scores when going from 1T to 2T timing, So i guess it will be dominated by processor demands and not just memory timing....

But you keep your timings the same when you go from 1T to 2T?
