finally Got round to getting all my bits for my current build minus the ram,
i know I’m never really gonna need more then 32gb ram in the life of this board,
so went for a ddr4 build over the ddr5,
this is after doing my head in watching and reading videos it seemed like the better choice.

now due think 4/ 8gb. Sticks to fill the space (visuals ) or 2/ 16gb sticks
Also could you guys help me out with a good set with good timings
gone for a Complete white build this time which makes things slightly higher but not so much as it’s ddr4

this build iis also a lot todo with being easier on the eye as it’s eye level with me on my desk
got a bit sick of blacked out stuff so fancied change From black case builds, also built my sons pc in white which I’m liking

Personally I ALWAYS go for 2 bigger sticks over 4 smaller sticks for one simple reason, future upgrades... assuming all other variables are equal (ie cas, frequency etc).

If I decide to downsize to a mitx I don't have unused ram, if I need more ram in my existing rig I can just add 2 more sticks without wasting my old ones (only issue there is if product is discontinued).

And even at 32gb of ram, hell I've only got 2 sticks with my 64gb (I do more than game), there might be a point where you need more ram.

this made perfect sense…
now I’m in two minds to send back the motherboard back and just bite the bullet And go ddr5
It goes on and on :))
would these be any good ?

Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO SL White 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Memory Kit

or keep looking ?

13600k I’ve got everything to build it minus some ram and a case.
been busy with work since last week and Didn’t even see the reply.

yer i would just go 2x16gb, unless you need high speed ram for some reason just buy budget ram.
what is classed was performance now cost the earth, and this time next year when the manufacturing prosses is refined it will paper weight stuff

For DRR4 having dual rank with dual channel is helpful, but it’s tough these days as they’re often using bigger memory chips. I went with 4x8 because I’ll never need more than 32GB and it solves the dual rank problem.

this is the reason i see a few videos about people saying they run better with 4x 8 sticks, but ram isnt my strong point.
will probably just stick 2x16 gb sticks in it that way if I do need more I can duplicate later on.

IIRC there used to be (might still be even) and issue where ryzen cpu's wouldn't be able to run memory at high clock frequencies when using 4 sticks (could still do 3200/3600 iirc).... I can't remember seeing this sort of issue on intel but I haven't been taking too much notice of intel recently.

I have zero experience on ddr5 so can't comment on that either.

It affects intel as well, its always best to do more in less sticks when possible for both future upgrading and the ability to run higher clocks/tighter timing.

DDR5 is different in that you have 2 channels on the stick, vs 1 on DDR4, so some of the considerations for 4 don't apply to 5 because it can read and write concurrently on any stick of 5.

intel memory controller for the win....

The Intel memory controllers certainly make everything much easier.

other than lovely RGB is there a benefit from having 4 sticks. im running a corsair lighting kit because 4 dose look better

It depends whether the ram is dual or single rank. If the ram is single rank then you will get better performance with 4 sticks of DDR4 but you will most likely not be able to run as fast or as tight timings as you can with just 2 sticks of dual rank ddr4.

If you like to play about with ram to eek out as much performance as you possible can then thats fine but it is well into the realm of diminishing returns for most use cases.
