4 years on, in the market for an upgrade.

Done some quick research on DS1.3, looks like it could be worth the wait to go for 4k gaming. Maybe just an SSD for now then, and a clean install should hopefully work wonders on the PC, I'm not too big a fan of getting a temporary card unless you guys can convince me its really worth it for the meantime.
Essentially games I am currently looking at ar Farcry Primal, Fallout 4 (modding), Division, Elite, and a host of others.

Look forwrad to hearing more

Two weeks is nothing, I can wait :) I'll have a look at those cards when they come out and see if anything tickles me. Thanks again for all of the help guys. Will get started on the SSD for now :)

I would take the msi or asus 390 over the saphire just becasue of 3 years warranty over 2 years on the saphire.

If you end up going for a 390, the sapphire is the better card due to power connectors (two 8 pins, rather than the usual 6 and 8), VRMs and decent cooling (They also specialise in AMD GPUs similar to evga for nvidia). ASUS warranty is not great due to having to send abroad (and allowed 28 days) and the extra years warranty is hardly worth the extra for either MSI or ASUS over the sapphire as if you have to rma in the last/extra year, your usage and other factors will be taken into account, reducing a refund amount if no replacement is available.

Sound advice apart from that though.

Thanks for the input Scurburg, I will try and weather my patience for a bit and see the cost of the new cards when they arrive, if anything it will at least mean a price drop for the 390 :P

If you’re not going to get a new video card right away I would suggest getting the at least some new memory. Due to me having having no grace installing CPU’s I ended up bending some pins on my motherboard and I can only use one of my 4Gb modules. I don’t play a lot of games but I recently tried to play the latest Thief game and Space Engineers and the 4Gb ram is major bottleneck so I strongly recommend getting a 16Gb kit (I’ve seen some 16Gb’s for £50) or at least a 8Gb kit (8Gb is fine, your next CPU/motherboard upgrade will most likely be DDR4 anyway so you can’t bring it with you).

Are you still rocking a 560Ti that came with you original system?

Thanks Micky, I'll post as soon as I upgrade, had a couple things come up this week but in the next couple I'll at least get the SSD, I'm seriously considering a new monitor so am weighing up my budget again ;)
