40"-46" Recommendations

Few things:

What will the Tv be used for? (eg 60% SD, 20%HD, 20% PS3)
What is your viewing distance from the set?
What is your budget?

LCD only and if so why?

What will he be using it for? (Sky HD, gaming, PC desktop, Freeview, Freesat, HTPC, Sky, DVD, Blu-ray, etc)

What 's hiw viewing distance?

How much does he want to spend?

If it's mainly TV and movies of any description and money isn't an object then the universally acepted best 42" flat panel TV currently available isn't full HD or an LCD, so would that be an option?

Edit - Man we need a sticky.

Sure would help save time. Even one that asks you list stuff like you just asked.

To the OP. Ask your boss for some info. Especially budget, you can pay from 500 to 2000+

Oh here we go....lol "universally accepted" ? Which one is...dont keep us in suspense now.

:)

ahh i was thinking of the 50" one..which is full 1080p. Yep i know the OP stated 46" limit but if he has a generous budget why not get the best?

edit: ahh your edit was quicker

Please calm down Surfer.

I was refering to the PDP428XD, since it falls within the OP size guide.

If the OP can go bigger and budget isn't a limiting factor then I would suggest any of the 50" Kuros (8 or 9G and 720p or 1080p depending upon budget). However, we have not got that far yet.

The main point I was making to the OP was that he shouldn't restrict himself to looking at LCD and Full HD if he wants to get the best TV for his requirements that he can for the money he has to spend.

ohh im perfectly calm....but you guys have got me taking much more of an interest in this sub-forum now.. I used to be a regular in this subforum waay back. Its quite clichy and bitchy now it seems.

Ehhh? We have got your interest back, but we're bitchy & clichy?!

Since we are talking about big screen TV's in here, what are your thoughts on the Panasonic TH-50PX8B? I have narrowed it down to this set or the TH-46PZ80B. Price difference being close to £500 for the smaller set. Primary uses will be Freeview and movies/tv eps displayed from an HTPC.

Also a question about the 24p playback on the 50". Does it mean that you can feed it a 1080p/24 signal and it will downscale to 720p and retain the 24hz? Thanks for your help :)

Edit: oh, viewing distance is a good 3m ~

Hi all

I know its been a few days but I have the main details:

-The TV is for his bedroom so the size actually needs to be 40-42"
-Watching Distance is about 12 feet
-Mainly SD viewing
-Budget is £1000

He has a couple in mind, but what can you guys recommend.
