£40 to spend on a mouse

DeathAdder! Most comfortable mouse I've ever used and I've been through various Logitechs, a Sidewinder and other Razer mice. Now on my second DA (3.5g) and couldn't go back to using anything else. It's also got a fantastic sensor.

I would stick with the Deathadder, it's what your hand is used too and if you liked it before theres no reason to get something different.

I've had the Deathadder for 2 years, it's been a great mouse but I'm open to other things, I think I'd like to try something different. That's the reason why I created a thread really, otherwise I would have just bought the Respawn already!

As for shape etc, deathadder is great but at work I use all sorts of mice and I'm sure I could get used to a different one. I think one with a bit more weight than the Deathadder would be good to try.

Cheap option:

Logitech MX518

Safe option:

Razer Deathadder Respawn

High spec option:

CM Sentinel Advance

Let's generate some pros and cons!

You actually don't say what your using your mouse for, if it's for FPS games I prefer an optical mouse, if it's for strategy RPG / MMO games I'd go for a laser mouse with macro functions. You sound like you like the CM Sentinel Advance, so why not try it out, if you don't like it you have 7 days to return it under DSR. Good luck with your choice.

Yeah, perhaps I should have mentioned that.

When using the mouse, it's either for FPS games, 3rd person games or general PC usage, word processing and so on. I don't normally play MMO or point and click stuff. For many games I also use a 360 pad or Logitech DFGT.

best mouse i ever used was the £8 one i got from ******s. Fits my hand like a glove, sooo comfortable. Using my other mosue atm, and it sucks :(

I would NOT buy a laser mouse for fps games. They are not as accurate as an optical mouse period, they are also more liable for skipping errors. Even the high end ones have this tendency. If you look in the forums dedicated to fps games, you will see 2 mice always being mentioned and recommended. IE3.0 & the Deathadder, no suprise that neither use a laser sensor. Then take a look at the SteelSeries website, they also recommend the Ikari Optical for FPS games, over their own Ikari Laser which is more expensive ... so my advice remains the same stick with the Deathadder for FPS games or try out a Laser mouse with a view to returning it if it's not up to DA standards in FPS games.

Thanks for that input EDC, it was very helpful.

I'm by no means a particularly competitive FPS player, but it seems pretty conclusive that the optical mice give more reliable tracking characteristics suited to such a genre. In which case, the Deathadder comes out on top. For performance, there's no question then.

I don't want to totally write off the laser mice yet I suppose. My expectations of performance may not be as high as some others, and a lot of the feel of mice is very subjective. I'd love to hear from some who've tried the CM Sentinel Advance. Vortez have a very positive review up on their site.

I've had a Deathadder before. It's an awesome mouse but not perfect I guess. I'd prefer it to be a bit more solid and have a little more weight behind it sometimes. That and the whole reason why I'm in this position was poor build quality. The mouse was double clicking on single clicks.

It seems there are a lot of recommendations in this thread for mice only (with little explanation). I'd appreciate if some of you came back and justified your responses, with the greatest respect. Otherwise I'll have to assume you recommend it based on the fact that's the only gaming mouse you own or have owned and you're trying to justify the purchase or feel some unearned loyalty towards it. I'd ideally love the opinions of those who've tried several of the popular mice. For those who have replied so far and told me why, thank you, all your comments are appreciated!

Awh man, this is a tricky decision.

I feel that since the MX518 has such a good reputation that I wouldn't be disappointed with it, but would it be a step down from the deathadder 3G?

Does the MX518 come in any different designs nowadays? Not sure about in the flesh, but the design on the photos looks cack. Are they supposed to be bullet holes?

I tried mx518 when looking to replace my mx510 a few years back and it was ok but I went with the deathadder in the end and haven't looked back for me it is more comfortable and just seems to be precise and responsive.

If my DA goes belly up I would most probably just get the respawn, but must say i'm quite liking the look of the cyborg RAT.
