Hi, I would appreciate some help with a spec for a home base unit.
The budget is £400.
It's main use will be surfing and movie watching.
I don't play games.
I don't need windows or mouse and keyboard.

Thank you
Jim

You're welcome. If it were me and I wanted to fill up the budget, I'd bump up the memory to 2x4GB, as it's not much extra, and it might help if you later decide to do some video editing and stuff. Otherwise it's plenty for internet/watching videos.

Good advice, I'll do that.

Thanks
Jim

Shame you've not been more active on the forum. If you work towards 100 posts there is a very good chance you can lose the dreaded P&P fee ;)

Full ATX mobo. Faster RAM which helps the APUs IGP. There are lots of F2P games on steam, so if you do fancy playing the odd game in the future it has a little more grunt. Decent cheap case (OOS at the mo though) and a modular PSU to help cable management. The XFX 450W is good (being Seasonic) but it's not modular.

Hope our suggestions help. You can use THIS to post your basket if you want to get people thoughts on what you are toying with buying :)

Thanks for all the great advice.

I haven't built a pc in the last 5 years, so I'm a bit ignorant of the latest hardware.

I'm at work at the moment, sneaking the odd look on the mobile :-) So I'll be able to look better at your recommendations tonight on the pc.

I don't live to far away from Overclockers, so hopefully i can pick it all tomorrow.

Cheers
Jim

+1 for Idleman's build.

Although I would swap the case for something else. That Antec 300 is ancient and lacking the features of many modern cases, such as cable management features and front USB 3.0

Cheers mate. The only reason for speccing the Antec, apart from it having 2 fans and removable dust filters, is the Asgard Pro is out of stock. Not to keen on the 210 and the 200R takes it further over budget. But then, the case is a personal thing, so will let the OP decide.

Totally agree bud, is tricky to that budget.

However if he is visitng the store he might find something in the B grade section ;) ;)

Thanks for all the great advice :)

I have gone over budget to spec the Corsair case as recommended by a few of you :),also i have chosen a enermax supply because the one I have at the moment is enermax and it is still going strong after 7 years:)

Here is what i have in the cart. Tell me what you think.

Cheers
Jim
