£400 base unit spec

That's a pretty nice build. If you definitely don't want to do any gaming you can cut back on the RAM speed to save £15 or so. But maybe the free Sim City will convert you :)

Thanks for all the great advice :)

I have gone over budget to spec the Corsair case as recommended by a few of you :),also i have chosen a enermax supply because the one I have at the moment is enermax and it is still going strong after 7 years:)

Here is what i have in the cart. Tell me what you think.

Cheers
Jim

Nice. However I personally would go with the CX430M or even the XFX 450W (which is seasonic so sweeet!). Put that extra cash to the better SSD the 840 EVO

No optical drive needed then fella?

The IGP is good might as well feed it properly. Remember the IGP can accelerate other tasks not just be used for gaming. He could always add a good value heatsink later on and overclock the CPU and IGP to further improve the performance.

Sure, but 1600MHz doesn't cripple it :) For the sake of £15 I wouldn't normally think of it, but I know it's already over budget.

I agree with the Corsair/XFX recommendation. This system draws so little power I wouldn't spend over £40 on a PSU anyway.

Ok honosuseri, I have substituted the Enermax with the Xp and saved a few quid :)

Unfortunately the Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO SATA is pre order only

Sorry I forgot to mention I have a optical drive.

Thanks
Jim

You know, if you talked a bit more, you could save yourself a tenner. :D

He said he was driving down there dude. I did hint at the free P&P perks earlier :)

I'll just ask he checks the ODD is sata. Yes the EVO SSD is pre-order but it's MUCH better than the standard 840. There is only one of those mobos in stock too so it might go out of stock (not wishing it on you but it happens with stock errors). Could be worth putting in the order with the EVO SSD and then find out when it's due in. I'd rather wait and get the stuff I want than keep tinkering the order to what's in stock.

Give us a break. It`s after midnight and I`m not re-reading the thread. :p

I was surprised when I went to the shop a couple of months ago. Very limited amount of stock on display. :(
I would`nt bother going again. Gets a bit crowded with half a dozen people in there. :D

Off topic, hav`nt seen much of you lately, been on your hols?

Oh I've been missed on here then have I? lol

Hols? What are those? No rest for the wicked fella ;) Just been busy with life bloke, work and family dramas nothing exciting I'm afraid.

Kudos for mentioning the free P&P anyway. It's what I like about this forum we do try our best to look out for each other best we can :)

Just checked the ODD is sata :)

Can you suggest a alternative mobo in case the Gigabyte F2A85X-D3H is out of stock? I'm not to worried if it takes a bit over budget

Just out of interest, how come the amd richland APUs get recommended over a Pentium or i3 for a completely non gaming build? I thought the amd APUs traded CPU performance for graphical performance. For an entirely non gaming build I would have thought ivy 3rd gen integrated graphics would have been sufficient and the faster CPU performance would have been worth it?

It's because the premise is wrong. The APUs are nowhere near as weak in general CPU performance as a lot of people believe. The 5800K can match an i3 3220 in most respects (and beat it in others), plus it overclocks and has a GPU that is ahead of an i7 4770K.
