Hey guys, I'm just wondering if this is an ok build for a gamer PC for around £400?

asus geforce gtx 460 direct cu top 768mb gddr5 pci-express graphics card

coolermaster elite 430 windowed case - black (with 500w elite power psu)

g.skill ripjaw 4gb (2x2gb) ddr3 pc3-16000c9 2000mhz dual channel kit (f3-16000cl9d-4gbrh)

amd athlon ii x3 tri core 445 3.10ghz (socket am3) - retail

asrock m3a770de amd 770 (socket am3) ddr3 motherboard

samsung spinpoint f4 320gb sata-ii 16mb cache - oem (hd322gj)

liteon ihas324-32 24x dvd±rw rewriter sata - (black) retail

cooler master hyper tx3 cpu cooler (socket 754/939/940/am2/am3/775/1155/1156)

notes: i'm a student so just want something that i can use during the summer to play games like cod, pes11, doom, dead space, mafia 2 and similar games but also for sound recording, maybe using protools.

considering i'll be mainly using it for this summer, a big hard drive isn't a big deal. is the motherboard future prood with the am3 socket?

i also have a mouse and keyboard. i can get windows xp on it, but could possibly get windows 7 at a student price (but i've already purchased it for my uni laptop ).

i have an old monitor that could facilitate for 1024x768 for a few games, about 17" - 19", so i'll probably use that unless someone can recommend me a good cheap one for the summer.

if anyone like stulid can come up with better parts for this, that would be great.

thanks.

edit: it's based on toms hardwares "System Builder Marathon, December 2010: $500 PC"

im very happy to be proven wrong here, but whats wrong with this ram:
OCZ Special ops

to my untrained eye, it is exactly the same, but £5 cheaper, but i would wait until someone who is more tech savvy than me confirms this

ignore him the mobo you chose is better and worth the £8.

This guy's mobo has onboard graphics and no crossfire.

You complete fool, the 770 chipset in that ASrock motherboard doesnt support crossfire either!!!!

Crossfire chipsets that do it symetrically are the 790GX/X/FX and 890GX/FX!!! do you really think run the second card at a much reduced 4X speed is useful?

if you dont understand or know what your talking about? then its best just to shut up.

YOU FAIL MASSIVELY.

I'am not having a go but if the man is buying an N-vidia card then there is no real point in getting a crossfire mobo is there .

And to make it worse he mentions its got onboard graphics, yes it has, and its a useful feature if the graphics card gets a fault, or the graphics card is sold for an upgrade, and there is a period of time until the upgrade arrives so the PC can still be used for simple tasks.

onboard = win/win when i had some sort of weird fetish for changing gpus the onboard was the only thing keeping me going between time periods, i think i changed my gpu 5 times within 2 months

sadly my crosshair 3 formula doesn't have onboard but i will be changing that in a few months time:p

onboard = win/win

Absolutely! i've had to send back my gpu so have been without one for about a week now. My onboard can even play a few games decently.

There does seem to be a problem with some mobo's claiming to be crossfire when they do not 'fully' support it. I thought that mine suported it and so bought an ATI card so that i could Xfire in the future, only to find out that it only supports asymmetrical crossfire. Was originally disapointed, but not really bothered, but in these descriptions it just has blanket claims like "crossfire ready"

I suppose that's why it pays to ask advice on forums. Someone else might always spot something you've missed.:)

tbh though, i should have researched my mobo a bit more;)

anyway, back on topic-
the only part of that build that i can really comment on personally is the 430 elite case. i have used that for my first build and i am happy with it. no real cable management options but i don't really find it a problem. Fits long Graphics cards as well. I get very good airflow through it too. i would recommend it for a first build.

i don't think there is anyone in the would that dosn't like onboard apart from the poster above that was complaining about it like it is a bad thing

boy... take a chill pill no need to rip your hole apart over it.

OCUK say it supports CF so I though it was true.
