Got a good friend looking to overhaul his entire system. The rig's main use will be for gaming, but the budget is around £400-ish.

I've been playing around for a few minutes and come up with this system:

Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
(£43.46)

Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK)
(£68.14)

Samsung SH-S203NBEBN 20x20 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) - OEM
(£18.79)

Intel Core 2 Duo E2180 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.00GHz (800FSB) - Retail
(£55.21)

OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK)
(£37.59)

OcUK ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
(£86.94)

XClio 6030 PLUS Black Midi Tower Gaming Case - Black (No PSU) XClio 6030 PLUS Black Midi Tower Gaming Case - Black (No PSU)
(£35.24)

Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard
(£76.36)

Total: £421.73

Anyone got any suggestions for maybe shaving off a few pounds? Or maybe replacing something for something else.

Cheers.

You could get the Geil PC6400 C4 as that is a bit cheaper than the OCZ and you could change the case to an Antec NSK 6580 which comes with a decent 430w PSU and is cheaper. :)

You could get the VX540 PSU instead as it'll be more than powerful enough. You should also get the 250 GB Seagate 7200.10. It's faster and only a tiny bit more expensive.

EDIT: Good call on the case/PSU, semi-pro. :)

The Antec case looks good. Will that PSU be ok for some heavy gaming and the rest of the components?
