£400 upgrade for a mate

Friend of mine is looking to spend £400 to upgrade his 5 year old PC.

  • CPU - Intel Core 2 Extreame QX6700
  • Motherboard - Asrock P45DE
  • Memory - 8GB Corsair XMS2 TWin2x4096-8500c5 G
  • Storage - 3TB something
  • Graphics Card - HIS ATI Radeon HD 6950 2048MB GDDR5
  • PSU - Corsair TX750 750W CMPSU-750TX
  • Case - ANTEC NINE HUNDRED GAMERS CASE
  • Windows 7 Pro 64Bit
  • BenQ 24" FP241W

Currently I've got the following, he's looking to upgrade the PSU and GPU at a later date:

Other suggestions?
 
Does he have an ssd? You could go for a lower end mobo and possibly fit in a small sad?
 
 
 
If he isn't upgrading his gpu (is he a gamer?) then i'm not convinced he'll notice much improvement in performance on a day-to-day basis from the QX to the i5 cpu.
Agree with Shivy011 and Woden, SSD for the biggest impact in performance increase.

Ok - he's just told me he already has an SSD, 128GB Vertex 2 and is interested in a CLC instead!
