£400 upgrade possible?

Trouble is, the more we talk about it the more I'm thinking a 9800X3D, board, ram new PSU and case may not be a bad idea...

No. It's fine.

It's fine....
haha this is literally me ever day

Same for me. Looked at the x3d CPU but wasn't worth the upgrade. I'll probably stick with that I have as it's fine at 1440p.
However buying parts one by one does sound appealing...
thats how i made my first few pc's. buy the parts that wont change first.. mobo and ram hold off on things like CPU and GPU till last because there is always new ones coming and offers

at you budget i would buy a motherboard and ram, stick it under the bed and wait a few week/months(i don't know your finance situation) and grab a 7800x3d latter when budget permits
That is a terrible suggestion and the worst way to put together parts for a new pc. All the time it's sitting under the bed or in a cupboard the warranty is being wasted plus if anything is DOA you would have to do a full RMA which could take weeks.

Just buy the system yeah build and use it.

If GPU shortage just use on die CPU igpu for now can still use it for windows internet music etc and basic games.
