Hi there I broke my dads 400d the other day, put the cf card in and somehow managed to bend one of the pins, just wondering how much is this likely to cost to fix?

ouch.....

I dont know but have you tried doing it your self, maybe with a strong tweezer or a butter knife

well i didnt wanna get in there just in case I break it, have bent it back into shape on a processor before but there is just no space to get in there. although could already be broken looking in it again, looked pretty bad down there.
 
SoliD, this is a known problem with 400D. It wasn't your fault, just take it back to the shop and get an exchange.

This happened to my friends 400D which he bought a couple of days ago. If you think about how can you bend only one pin with a CF card? It's not possible.

My friend took his back to shop he bought it from and the senior staff said that they already have had 3 returns because of this problem.

Ah good stuff its my dads, who wasnt best please when I told him so hopefully this might make him forgive me a little, he actually got it free with some promotion or other on boilers (central heating engineer) so may have to phone them up and see or go direct to canon.

Dunno he gets points for every boiler he buys and he only gets one of the gifts from this catalogue once a year or so, probably 20 or so boilers. His friend gave him a nice 75-300mm lens to go on it aswell which was kind of him. Trying to get hold of the company to find out who we can take it back to now.
 
How common is this on the 400D exactly? Is there anything you can do to minimise the risk of it happening? As MichaelHo said, how on earth can you bend one pin on a CF card slot?
 
I think it doesn't happen but it comes like that. So if you are thinking of purchasing a 400D make sure you check the CF card compartment to make sure all the pins are fine.
