Thinking of getting a 4080. Does it require 2x8 pin PCIE (via the adapter) or 3? Because I can't find the second PCIE cable that came with my Dark Power Pro, which I bought about a decade ago.
I run a 3080 fine with 2 and I know the 4080 uses slightly less power.

Afaik 4080/4080 Super is 3, 4070 Ti/4070 Ti Super are 2.

You can also get 7900 XTX cards with 2 (no adapter needed, since they don't use the 12/16 pin), though many are 3.

yeah I'm looking at the MSI GeForce RTX 4080 16GB GAMING X TRIO which I think comes with a 3x adapter but I'm 100% I'll be fine with 2 since its 2x150W + 75w from the slot.

PSU isn't ATX 3.0 so doesn't have the 12VHPWR. if the Palit gets away using 2x then so will this. I mean my 3080 currently uses 335w.

Looking around online and people saying there cards do not run when not using all 3 of the 8 pins. I would suggest that if your card comes with an adapter that requires 3 x 8 pin that you use 3 even if it means buying a new PSU

What is the psu model you have ? As BeQuiet does make 12VHPWR cables for their psus.

well, I won't need a new psu, just a new 8xPCIE cable from somewhere.

Cheers, this cable is precisely what I need. I just wish it was in stock! https://www.overclockers.co.uk/be-quiet-12vhpwr-pci-e-adapter-cable-cb-000-bq.html

So I bought the bequiet! adaptor, got the 4080, and it works fine. The only problem is the card is so huge there's little horizontal clearance for the cable so I can't put the side of the case back on, but I don't really mind that. I don't want to bend the cable given the issues with this new connector.

Maybe time for a new larger case then and yes not a good idea to bend these cables in any way. Happy you got that sorted out in the end.
