I'll be moving into my first ever home in December, so I'm looking for a bigger TV!

At the moment I have a 26" Samsung LCD, which is fine for my bedroom at the parents house, but I'm wanting a 42" or there abouts as it's quite a large living room in place I'm moving to.

It'll mainly be used for watching bluerays / gaming. I'm sure the house I'm moving into has a sat dish on the wall, so perhaps one with freesat tuner built in? - is there anything around for under £550?

I've had a look at the two main TV shops in Edinburgh, very little to choose from, so I'll probably be buying online.

Thanks muchly.

There are a few models that fall in and around that price range - such as the Samsung LE40B550A5 which is 40" so a bit smaller than you wanted but can be had for £549 or less.

Another would be something like the LG 42LH2000 which comes in at around £579 or less; there's also the LG 42PQ6000 which is also £579 odd.

Bare in mind none of these are 1080p - for that you'd be looking nearer £600 minimum and for ones with freesat then it's a little more again (LG 42LF7700 for instance is ~£749).

Actually the 42" LG with freesat can be had for £550 at the mo, not sure if I can mention where though - could be a competitor, although they are a hi-fi specialist really.

My LG 42PQ6000 cost me £530 in May, can be had for £485 now......online.
Freeview, not freesat and 720p not 180p. Excellent tv though. :)

last year i got a lg 50" plasma 50pg3000 for £520 (seemed the avaerage prce for the set everywhere) might be worth seeing if you can find one as it was only listed as 720p but its actually 1080p as stated in the manual:cool:.

both my brothers and my dad and uncle all went and got one for their houses baragin i thought. now its a year out of date and they have a new model you might find it cheaper??

Thanks for the replies. Not sure about plasma tvs - would they be better for gaming than say an LCD? Regarding freesat, while it would be a nice option I don't think I'd discount a tv if it didn't have it bearing in mind I don't actually watch a lot of TV! I'd rather watch a film / PS3, than prime time tv!

50" would be too big, so something around 42" would be fine.

One likely candidate is the Toshiba 42AV635DB 42in Full HD which comes in at £479.

However I'll wait a couple of weeks to see what else is available, I reckon there may be more bargains nearer xmas.

The LG's have a usb port which you can plug an external drive in and watch divx movies. I do this and the movies i have are around the 700mb mark and look very good indeed on the 42" screen.
