Hi all,

I'm after a basic 1080p tv (Smart & 3D features etc not necessary), but I'm after good picture quality with good blacks and the ability to deal with high motion video and low input lag for games. I keep hearing the Sony W7 and W8 models come into their own for games and I know from the other Bravia we own that their panels are really quite good, but I wondered if I could get any more for more money by looking at other panels like LG or Samsung? I've just had a look at the Samsung 48H6200 and it looks really good for the price?

I had a Panasonic 42" TX-42A400B which I'm sending back due to faults and generally poor quality control. Plus the picture quality was relatively poor with rubbish blacks so now I'm in the market for a new one. Needless to say Panny's are now in my bad books...

Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers

I agree with Panasonic tvs being very shocking PQ wise. Sony you mentioned are good but my money is still on the slightly older samsung 48H6400. Yes it has smart features and 3d but they are just features. The PQ is stunning and "game mode" is more than adequate for gaming even from a pc.

That's good to know. RS have the UE48H6400 for sale at £549.99 with a 6 year guarantee - all reviews seem pretty solid. Anything else worth considering or is this the one to go for? :)

Was about to say it seems a little strange as I got the 48H6400 from them for that price over a year ago, but having just had a quick look at the range it looks like the best option if you don't want curved or 4k.

Samsung UE48H6400 or Sony KDL-48W705C you cant go wrong with either of them for the price:)

As above. The Samsung swung it for me because I felt it was more vibrant but of course that's probably just a setting. You'll be hard pushed to do better for the money. Just go and see which you prefer the look and feel of tbh. Enjoy

Bottom of the range TV like a TX42A400 isn't suppose to give amazing black levels, that's why it was a cheap TV, same as other cheap TV's from LG/Samsung.

Very tempted by the Samsung. Looks exactly what I'm after based on reviews etc. Much difference compared to the newer 6200 model out of interest? The Panasonic was a poor decision on my part to be honest, granted my own fault.

I ordered the Samsung 48H6400 this morning. Was looking at buying it last year but other things came up. When I saw it for £440 earlier it was a no brainier! Great tv by all accounts.

By the way RS refused to price match for me, based on the better warranty they offer. They offered £20 off as goodwill though. Your local store might be willing to budge a bit more.

I have just bought a Panasonic TX-40CS520B and the PQ and build are awesome! I got it for £359! It gets fantastic reviews as well.

Also the Cheap 4K TX-40CX400B is getting some great reviews inc What Hifi Best Buy!

Serious !! wouldn't touch the CX400 range, poor vestel made rubbish wish awful smart features.

Went to Currys and had a good look at the H6400 and Sony 705C/755C/805C yesterday. Have to say I prefer the Sonys for the viewing angles, black levels and build quality (stand and bezel). Although you can never tell for sure as they might not have been setup properly.

No interest in 3D so I'm thinking a 50" 755C from RS with a 6 year guarantee at £630. Reckon it's a good move? Will check back at Currys tonight again (only up the road from me).
