4400 x2 Temperature

Hi all,

Can anybody give me advice on temperatures for the 4400 x2 CPU?

I have an ASUS A8N32-SLi Deluxe motherboard, 4400 x2 CPU, 2GB Corsair Value 400MHz RAM.

I am using the VapoChill Micro Ultra Low Noise (Socket 754/939/940). Normal running I get 45/46 degrees C. Is this normal? Seems a little hot to me...

Thanks!

Tony

What do you mean by 'normal running'?

Are you talking about gaming, or just internet browsing?

If that's an idle temp, than I'd say it's high, however if it's a load temp then it's fine.

What case is it in? What's the case airflow like? Do you use AS5? If so, how much did you put on (could be you put on too much).

Cheers,
Hav

RE:

Sorry the 'normal running' is just the temperature displayed in the BIOS. No OS installed etc. I literally just built the machine last night.

I just put it in with the standard thermal paste to get an idea of temperature, so no AS.

It's in an all aluminium Lian-Li case with a Hyper Modular PSU. I have one rear fan pulling air out of the case.

What do you think? Sounds high to me.

Thanks

That sounds high to me for a BIOS reading that'll only be using a single core.

For comparison, my load temp is 47c, and thats running two copies of superpi on an overclocked (2.0 -> 2.6) Opteron 170 @ 1.475v. Temps in BIOS are normally low 40's, and temps in Windows are 35 - 38c.

I use a Freezer 64 and the gloop that was on the bottom of the HSF, so no AS here. From what I've read though, the Vapochill Micro's are not that brilliant unless you have the fan on maximum.

Hi all,

Thanks for the advice.

I am really peeved. Did lots of reading of reviews and everything I read said they were really good. I've only just bought it so there's £35 down the drain. Do you think it's something overclockers would take back? Doubt it...

What do you recommend as the best for this CPU for about £35?

Cheers

Im affraid they wont accept a return on that mate, Well i doubt very much.

For £35 Id consider a Zalaman 9500 HSF or Evo 33. I use the Evo33 on one of my systems and its fine and can be adjusted for best sound/performance.

Them temps are a little high, have u cecked its seated properly. Also remember Temps are also affected by Ambient temps, so if u have the system in a Hot room then it will be affect.

The Thermalright Si-120 is a great heatsink, didn't that make it into your shopping list?

Easy to fit, choice of fans, no compatibility issues and cools great!

Oh well :(

Cheap (£15) (but functional, a good heatsink): Freezer 64 Pro
Expensive (£30+): Scythe Ninja with a nice fan :) (It doesn't come with a fan by default as it's meant to be a passively cooled heatsink)
