If I replace my 4400x2 2.7ghz/Asus MVP Deluxe/2GB Corsair with a Intel C2D keeping the ATI X1900XT would I notice anything in games? And by how much?

Can i just hi-jack this a bit rather than start another thread the same. I have a similar situation. I currently have:

asus a8v deluve AGP
x2 3800+ @2.6ghz
2 gig ddr400
x1950pro AGP

At the end of this month i will hopefully be buying an 8800gt. I have 2 options. I can have an asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe for free:D, off a mate and use the cpu and memory with the new card. OR buy a cheap c2d (probabably e2180), motherboard and some DDR2 hopefully mostly funded from selling the AMD and DDR. Any thoughts on those 2 options?

I have just done pretty much what you are suggesting

Start system - 3D Mark 2006 - 4,700

AMD opteron 170
X1950
EPox 9nda3+ Motherboard
1 GbCrucial Ballistix PC4000

Sold or am selling my old kit plus a spare opteron. Added around 120 quid and got :-

Intel E2180
Gigabyte P35 DS3R
2Gb OCZ Platinum PC2-6400
Zotac 8800GT 512mb Gfx

I have clocked the graphics a bit and the CPU to over 3Ghz (probably will settle at 3.2 although it can run stable at 3.4). My new rig now gets close to 12,000 on 2D Mark 2006.

I am extremely happy with the results for the net outlay.
