£45,000 Sierra.

Much of what you post makes me doubt if you are the sort of motoring enthusiast who would buy an M5.

This is another.

Why should I act like a restrained boring old tosspot because life has thrown me a bone? I hate ugly ass rally cars covered in hundreds of decals, not my think.
M5 gives me pure speed and comfort.
I'm still gonna speak my mind, and i'd prefer a scorpio over a sierra any day, if we're talking that kinda boxy ford style.

Oh and i'm not a "motoring enthusiast" thats like calling a pedophile a "child enthusiast" I like cars, doesn't mean I have to like all of them.

'I would modify a Scorpio instead of buying a Sierra RS500' is just a retarded comment. You'll note from this thread I am NO fan of the Sierra RS500 but the very thing you said just showed a complete lack of any understanding whatsoever. Quite where the Scorpio thing even came from I don't know.

Me neither!

The whole point of that RS 500 is its a unique car with a long pedigree in racing, in excellent condition and an excellent plate to match such a car!

My old man used to have a Granada Scorpio 2.9i as I did myself a few years ago.

Apart from a nice V6 rumble (above the noise of the pushrod valvegear!) both were comfy barges that slowly fell to bits & rusted away they had NO other redeeming features of quality at all.

Tell me, Where does an RS 500 Cosworth lose out to a Scorpio?

Unfortunately Fox is right about the Sapphire. There are LOTS of very very nasty ones because they are so much cheaper (but basically just as capable) as the 3 doors.

I got passed by a bright electric blue one with chrome bits all over it on my way to the dentist yesterday, at first I thought "Jesus, what a horrid Sapph", then I heard that unmistakable Cosworth rumble and ticking top end followed by dump valve and thought "Jesus, what a horrid Sapphire Cossie"

There are some stunning Sapphire Cosworths around, it's just a shame that low used values have let them fall in to the hands of people who don't really understand or appreciate them and they get neglected or chavved up.

Still worth seeking out a nice one though

Not read the whole thread but the subject on the plate '500 RS' got me thinking.

I checked on the DVLA site and this is what came up.

Very nice RS500. To the guy in his mind it might be worth more than £45k. He definatly loves the car. Theres nothing wrong with putting a huge asking price on it.

There could be a buyer out there who thinks the same thing. Who loves them just as much and will pay the money for it.

Like most people on here though, I would'nt pay £45k for it and the plate.

His car is at least £20K over what it should be if you remove the plate, and that plate is not worth anything more than £10K if you ask me.

Ouch! £8200 for the plate back in 1990

Today, I wonder what the plate alone is worth?

One thing for sure, if he can afford £8.2k for a plate, I think he's been able to run it properly!

I think he can afford to take a hit on that £45k he's dreaming about also.

There were 500 of these built but I would be very suprised if more than 200 of them are still in use today, I personally saw one that had been destroyed by joy riders so the fewer there are the more this example is worth.
