That one is best, great deal, where is that on sale?

Personally I'd go for the top one unless you want the 17" screen: there really isn't much difference between 15.6" and 17" (about 3cm diagonally)

The R7 265 and GeForce 840M are as close to twins as you're likely to get, they give virtually identical performance, so you're basically losing the 17" screen but gaining the i7 over the i5 - there's not a massive difference between the 4210 and 4510, but it's noticeable. Worth the £20 difference and tiny bit less screen real estate

thanks for the replies.

How does an M processor compare to the U?

Not much difference really, i think the i5 4210u takes less power but the i5 4210m clocks higher at it's highest frequency, anyway the 825m that goes with is a lot weaker than the 840m and R7 M265, so go for either of them, it's upto you.

And the M265 performs better than the 840M in many others... as I said, they're very similar chips. Picking one over the other depends on the specific games you play.

It comes down to whether you prefer the 17" monitor or the extra CPU performance. Personally I'd take the CPU performance, as I find a 15.6" screen to be just as good as a 17". The point is that it's all preference, both have slightly different advantages, so declaring one "better" than the other is pointless without more detail on exactly how the machine will be used.

Hawkesbury, the M processors are a fair bit more powerful, but also a lot more power hungry, a lot hotter etc... but more importantly the 825M isn't a great graphics chip, so you'd end up with a slower machine in most uses: don't bother unless the laptop is destined to be a desktop replacement (ie spends 99% of it's life plugged in and sat on a desk)

Edit: beat me to it, but at least we agree there :p

If it's going to be mainly used as a desktop replacement i would definately go for my recommendation as it's best to get the biggest screen possible, if it's going to be carried around a lot i would go for Audigex's recommendation in the R7 M265 15.6' laptop.

Well the wife has demanded it has a DVD drive. (I know you can get USB ones)

The laptop will be fairly static - so size/weight isn't too much of an issue.

Add an USB DVD drive to your order or you'll have to look at another brand with an internal one.

Can't see you getting a 17' with that spec for that price so definately get onto your wife.:D

So after all that they couldn't ship before Mid January.

Planning on picking up a ACER for £399 (with some random voucher codes)

Windows 8.1
Intel® Core™ i5-4210U Processor
Memory: 8 GB
Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 840M
15.6 touch screen

Indian food place.

I bought £500 of vouchers for £400 pounds of through giftcloud. They had a save 20% deal on.

Then used O2 priority app to get a £50 off a £500 pound spend.
