£450 Spec check..

Interesting I hadn't seen the HX450, it's new I think, the spec page is wrong for it, it should read:
•Supports the latest ATX12V v2.2 standard and is backwards compatible with ATX12V 2.01 systems.

Note the efficiency is upto 85% not upto 80%, I think the product spec page is taken from the HX520/HX620 which are seasonic not Channel well tech.

Here is my alternate spec:
A bit cheaper, better monitor, better onboard graphics, faster HDD, slightly slower CPU. If you want to get a faster CPU, simply opt for this.

The HX450 is actually less efficient than the VX, although at the minute i'd go with the PC P&C Silencer 420W:

thanks for the replies.... I was also concidering the tri core for a little more power but not as expensive as a quad.
also i was aiming for about a 500-550watt PSU incase a GFX is later put in... but i trust Corsair build solid psu's so i figured the 450 would be ok?
can i ask why most people have avoided the Samsung T220? something i dont know about it?

No it's not, Overclockers have the wrong description up for the HX450, they've used the HX520 description. The VX450 and HX450 are both upto 85% efficient.

The 450W Corair HX is undoubtedly a good PSU, though for your budget the VX or the PC Power & cooling 420 would be a better choice. However, if you have your heart set on the HX 450W then you will be getting a good PSU. Also, any of those PSUs will be barely tested by the PC specifications suggested above, you could happily add a mid-range graphics card to it later and it will still run fine - even the 420W will be grand.
There is nothing wrong with the samsung T220. It is simply a bog standard TN panel monitor, no more no less - It will likely suit you fine for your applications.
However, I specified the more expensive Dell 2209WA for a couple of reasons:
-It uses an eIPS panel which is far higer quality than a TN (such as the T220) so it has much better image quality and viewing angles
-For your applications I judged that you would benefit more from a better monitor than a better CPU (as for the applications you allude to, such an upgrade will not give you much (if any) extra performance).
-Dell warranty is simply brilliant, if you have a problem with the monitor then dell come around the next day with a replacement monitor and exchange it on your doorstep - so you are never without a monitor.
Here is a good website that details the difference between the monitor panel types, the uses a version of IPS, the samsung uses a TN+ panel.

How about this?
happy to stick with the lower end monitor to raise the rig spec to prolong an upgrade...also a 500w will handle any mid range card from now as i will proberly only be putting a 8800GTS into it.
This includes a case... so the budget is £500.
