My nephew has a 4650 and wants Bf3 for Christmas but i am not sure if it will be able to run it and what is the equal of this card in today's ati range ?

I don't think he will get much out of it, even if it's the ddr3 memory version. :D What's your budget and the rest of his spec? :)

Its the ddr2 1gb version and he has a C2duo 6600 with 2 gb of ddr2 ram !
i know it all needs upgrading but he is only 14 and his mum is unemployed and they will not be upgrading the pc

My suggestion is for them to get an xbox as pc gaming is quite expensive and really just becoming an enthusiast platform

At this point yes I would say the XBox is probably your best bang for buck. Not sure about PC gaming just being an enthusiast platform though. It does have some distinct advantages over it's console counterparts.

Yes but when it comes to cost i think the pc is going to loose even though i am a hardcore pc enthusiast

pcs can be put together quite cheaply with older tech but with shiny new games like BF3 they are going to srtruggle

Still dont know what the 4650 = in todays line up ? 5470 6470 etc as it says the minimum spec card is a Hd 3870 ?

A rough equivalent to the 4650 DDR 2 would be the 6450. If the game requires a 3870 as a minimum then look for a 6570 (GDDR 5) or preferably above, if at all possible.

What resolution is he running btw?

thats not that bad as a 6450 is only about £35 and about the price of a game

But no idea of the res ! but i would imagine low 19/20 inch monitor from about 2 years ago
also i think his psu should handle that and a lot cheaper than an xbox ;)

The 6450 has dx11 but it's not a gaming card as such, well, at all really. I expect that it will run the game but very poorly, even at lower resolutions, unless you turn everything down to low or minimum. The 9800gt wipes the floor with the 6450.

9800 it is then but i bet i will have to buy it lol

I myself would like to get rid of my 5850 in anticipation of the 7000 series but i don't think his system would handle a 5850
