4670k 4.3ghz. Upgrade time?

If you're an i5 owner like me and want to upgrade for more cores but find the overclocking on the Zen's somewhat, well..err, crap, then it would be best to wait for the 6c 12t Coffee Lake release in August even in the full knowledge that if you want more cores that will clock higher than Ryzen..it will cost you.

I simply use too much stuff on my current PC that demand high IPC & high core frequencies to consider Ryzens that top out at only 4ghz.

A 10% Ryzen IPC deficit on top of a 20% core frequency deficit is just too much lost performance in my book.

Sorry AMD, give me a Ryzen that can hit at least 4.5Ghz and I'll consider you, but until then, no.

What do you find yourself doing that requires better IPC, and GHz, on a 4c/4t CPU? Just curious, as I have various requirements for what I do, and I'd die if I had to use an i5 with only 4 cores. :)

Emulation.

Most emulators only need 2 cores with as high an IPC & frequency as possible.

In fact, the only reason I want/need more than 4 cores is so as to enable me to keep playing the latest game releases in the future, which will undoubtedly need more than 4 cores.

Right now, a 4 core 4690K @4.5Ghz can still run any game out there to a very high level...but 6 cores & 12 threads would be nice to have in the bank, ready to go for the day when 4 cores just won't cut it :)

Ah, still games, I though it might have been something interesting. :p

Can't say I've tried any modern emulation, played the odd Megadrive or SNES game, but that would work on a calculator these days. :)

In many situations. For example, some games would require it:
