4670k

Before giving it more vcore (1.3v is already quite a bit for 4.3Ghz) try increasing cpu input voltage to 1.90v. My 4670k won't boot with any less at 4.4Ghz.

Here are my settings for 4.4Ghz core and cache. Get the core stable first before adjusting the cache:-

CPU Core Ratio - Sync all cores
Ratio Limit - 44x (45x for 4.5Ghz)
*Min CPU Cache Ratio - 8x
*Max CPU Cache Ratio - 44x (you may want to leave these until stable and then play around with the cache)
CPU Core Voltage override - 1.275v (1.295v for 4.5Ghz) (use manual voltage until you find the max overclock and then you can work out the offset if you want the voltage to drop at idle).
CPU Cache Voltage - Manual Mode
CPU Cache Voltage Override - 1.300v (leave at stock until clocking the cache)
CPU Input Voltage - 1.90v (4.4Ghz or over and mine won't boot with less)

Annoyingly Gigabyte and Asus call different names for some settings which confuses things. Asus Cache = Gigabyte Uncore is one of them.

Input is a good shout!

It's also worth trying a range of values, some like low, some like high, some like really high.

Try between 1.6 and 2.0v

Cheers guys appreciate all the help.

Getting a little frustrating ha. Haven't found anything stable yet even down to 4.0.

Well some pass an hour of real bench. Fine with games like wow, league, cod. But battlefield 1 it crashes after a few maps.

Maybe I just lost the silicone lottery?

Could be a poor chip unfortunately :(

Reset everything in your bios

Set memory to 1600Mhz.

Up vcore to 1.28

Push up the multi x2 at a time from the 3.4 stock

Keep it simple and see how far you get.

Something to aim for ;)

I dunno, If its sort of stable at 4.3GHz, and dropping down to 4.0GHz at the same voltage doesn't bring it back to stable, then to me that sounds like something else causing the crash than the chips ability...

Prefer the cool n quiet aproach myself. 4790k @ 4.7GHz @1.214v, delidded under custom water lol

Yep.

I agree, hence me posting a keep it simple voltage and multi change and rule the ram out by dropping to a basic 1600mhz

My suggestion, is run realbench, then provide us with screenshots of everything that hwinfo64 shows in the sensors tab, then we will be able to see if anything looks out.

Hopefully I understood what you meant. Ran a realbench at 4.1 @ 1.25v last night didn't crash for 4 hours. load up bf1 and crash.

Here are the readings from hwinfo however:

No need to apologise dude! Appreciate your efforts! Maybe I'll bounce this up to the ask 8 pack area. See if he has any suggestions!

You try reducing the 'uncore clock' or ring clock ( think they are the same ) to 3400.

Get the vcore stable, then raise the ring

Cheers dude, tried this in an earlier attempt. Still crashes in real world use. Well games lock up. No blue screen. Will try it again though.

What ram kit you using?

I have the same cpu/mobo found XMP would make OC's unstable, ended up have to increase the Ram voltages to get stability with an overclock.

Disable your xmp profile and see if you still get crashes

XMP is already disabled I believe. I have Avexir Venom 2x 4GB.

Might try upping it to 1.65v then.

there an easy way you can show me your bios settings?

EDIT; just seen your sig, what are the chances? Going for the Green LED look?

That's useful to know about Gigabyte boards as I have just given my 4670k a quick overclock to 4.2GHz and couldn't for the life of me find the CPU Cache setting.

Just had a though. Did you try updating your Bios?

z87 chipset wasn't exactly designed for devils canyon chips, so you never know, it might help the motherboard know what to do with it.

Just as well the OPs 4670K is an original Haswell - and not Devil's Canyon/Haswell refresh. :p

Cheers for all your time and effort guys. BIOS is all up to date and I am still no closer to a stable overclock.

Perhaps I will see what Ryzen brings or save until coffeelake next year for a monster system.

Although I would like a nice build for battalion 1944 that drops in ~May.
