4770 with 4870 crossfire?

So did i. DFI LanParty LT X48, E8500 @4Ghz with 1.328v, 4870, 2x2 gb pc2-8500, X-Fi extreme gamer, 5x fans, Zalman ZM-MFC2 multifunction controller, 2x WD AAKS sata ll hdds and a sata dvdrw.

I have to think carefully here cause I know allot of people do over estimate and you see em running systems like mine on 850W PSU's

I'm thinking about cost benefit here.

Paying 60 quid for an extra card, I would get more performance for the money than paying over 150 quid for say a 5870 or 5850.

At 1680x1050 it depends. For example in BC2 I rarely hit over 800mb usage with 4xAA 16xAF, all high details at 2048x1152. I reckon at 1680x1050 and 2x or even 4xAA would not max out 512mb. Then again that's just 1 game.

Texture heavy games like crysis and metro 2033, BC2 textures are of very low quality for the most part, no doubt because of its console roots.

I have to say coming from a 19in point of view, i have never capped my 2 4770's enough to induce lag with everything rammed up. so obviously its going to add a bit more strain at Will's res' but as said i reckon you should be ok.

Nonsense.

A corsair 520W is a decent PSU it should be able to handle max loads.

LoL if you like living on the edge of system failure all the time, be my guest, to say a 520 is well enough for a full system including xfire 4870's and an overclocked CPU @ 4Ghz is well misinformed TBH.

The above with the bare minimum hardware and running 3D06 lol, I go by facts not hearsay, a 520 watt PSU is on the limits, corsair or not.

I have sat with a power meter, 2x 4870s and 1 highly OCed Q6600 on a 500W enermax PSU.

Running furmark and a CPU stress test it stayed at around just over 500W from the wall socket.

I think thats perfectly acceptable for full load thats never really going to happen to be around 80% load.

Yeah that's power consumption at the wall.

Also the OP has a wolfdale which barely consumes anything. My p45-ud3p used to say my E8400 @ 4.5GHz consumed around 70-75W max under IBT.

As stated, assuming the PSU is 80% efficient then the system is actually only drawing around 340-350W

520 watt maybe fine in the short term " like two week lol " but running at full capacity " which it will be " will inevitably take its toll on the PSU then boom.
