hello just needed a little help looking at a new cpu and mobo have a 3570k now want to upgrade to haswell. Is it worth getting the i7 or just stick to the i5 or is there another option?

Why do you want to upgrade? What are the rest of your system specs? Are you currently running (or hoping to) multi-high end gpu setups? What resolution do you play games at? Once we know these bits, you can get an accurate answer.

currently i have 2x his iceq 7950 boost korean 2560x1440 monitor.
Wanna make the most of the 2 cards i have as i dont think i am with the 3570k.

You are less likely to be CPU bottlenecked at that res than at 1080p but if you are running overclocked 7950s and you cpu is holding them back, an i7 3770k would be your most cost-efficient path as Andy says. Have you overclocked your 3570k?

Cards are overclocked and the 3570k is at 4.3. thanks for the help guys (saved me a lot of outlay haha) going to stick with what i have for now wait until the next intel release

4770K is a monster, best CPU for gaming.. I went to 4770K from 3960X. The 4770K is a beast. For it's price it's well worth it imho. Especially as the Haswell mobo's are so cheap.

Stick with your 3570, jumping to 4770K wunna see much performance increase in gaming.

Maybe not yet, but i think most decent games released during 2014 and beyond will like CPUs with more than 4 threads :).

I personally think the OP should just pop in a 3770K. It runs cooler than Haswell and there's hardly any difference in performance between a 3770k and 4770k anyway... Nothing that you'd really notice. You won't need to fork out for a new mobo and don't have to worry about reinstalling your OS and other stuff either ;).

Unless you're CPU throttling when gaming, there's no need to go for either 4770k or any Haswell.

3570k vs 4670k is a 2% upgrade for example; going for 4770k can be an upgrade depending on the game; but if there's no game that is currently CPU-bottlenecked, why not wait a few months till you find one and then upgrade for cheaper?

If you want an upgrade, get a 3770K. At this point of time, with Mantle, going to need less CPU power, not more. And all "old" games, work fine with the 3570 either way. Everything Intel & AMD have are dead sockets, and since you have an upgrade path with current motherboard, go for it.

though most games are still GPU limited on 7950 CF.

Eh? Could you tell me please a game that his system going to be GPU limited on 2 7950s? Other than the ones that do not support CF or SLI.

His setup is beating by a huge margin every single GPU solution, in the market.
(including overclocked 780Ti & 290X).

The new intels are coming next year so buying a new cpu now would be a risk.

The 3770K are a dead board now no future chips coming so like a 4770k buying a 3770k would be a waste an maybe a side step in stead of an upgrade.

There's plenty of benches regarding the 3 chips.

His best option would be stick with what he's already got an clock a bit higher wait till next year then buy current gen if there's an improvement.

Two 7970s can't manage 60fps average in Sleeping Dogs at that res, for example. Even at 1080p lots will have dips of <30fps when fully maxed out.

Maxed out on a single 7970 I was dipping to 30 FPS, 1080p of a 7970 Crossfire shouldn't really be dipping to 30.

Although it's because he's misunderstood what you meant by GPU limited.

Depends on the game. With two 670s overclocked I'm regularly seeing drops to 30-40fps in the most demanding ones maxed out even at 1920x1200. Add in PhysX and it's a mess, most of the time.
