About to pull the trigger on a new bundle and wondered what opinions are now coffee lake has been around for a little while. Some benchmarks are incredible while others say there's not much in it?
I game at 3440x1440 100hz using a 1080ti.

I often feel the 4770k is holding me back and it's not an amazing overclocker. Best is 4.2 stable.

The CPU matter less at higher RES like yours.

You should be able to get at least 4.6GHZ even using the Mobo' auto OC profile, above that its silicon lottery.

6 cores versus 4 + HT, probably not a lot in it, more a side grade. But you get the later mobo and bios gizmos.

@3440x1440 you are GPU bound for the vast majority of games except cs:go etc...

If you were gaming at 1080p with a 240hz monitor the upgrade makes sense.

I have a 4770k @ 4.3Ghz and at 2560 x 1440 my GPU holds me back mostly.

What games are you finding you CPU usage is @ 90 - 100%?

It was Battlefield 1 that I noticed most in 64 player maps. I did not want to feel restricted in my gaming and don't mind spending the money to have the best experience. Also, I got a good price on selling my 4770k bundle so it wasnt too painful to upgrade in the end.

So I purchased a z370 Aorus Gaming 7 and an 8600k Cpu.

Straight away I tested the overclock potential and decided that 4.7Ghz was a good place to jump in. Well the CPU took 4.7 no problem at all and it was chugging away nicely at 50-55 degrees. WIN!

Also, BF1 now uses about 50% cpu rather than 90-100% of the 4770K so all in all a very worthy upgrade and I am very happy. Its also a LOT cooler than the 4770k. :)

What are you guys on about.? 3440x1440@100hz is less than 4K@60hz.
If 1080ti can do 4K60 than it can do 3440x1440 100fps even better.
6 real cores is better than 4 cores + hyperthreading.
Add to that higher overclock, IPC improvement and more memory bandwidth and it should be obvious that 8600K is way better.
Even i5 8400 is on par or faster than 7700K in many benchmarks despite running lower clocks.

Not sure how much but definitely there is some.
I can actually test that tomorrow by downclocking my 6700k and memory to match my haswell system and running some benchmarks.

Of course there is some improvement(i was having a laugh in my previous response) but the issue is that its not very big when it comes down to actually performance gained from the upgrade vs money spent. To me the 6700k when launched made no sense if you were already on haswell, same goes for the 7700k again due to the price paid. The 8700k is a different beast as you get more cores on top of whatever refinements intel has made but the asking price is still just to much i feel considering you can have an 8 core 16 thread monster from the competition at around 2/3rds the price last i checked with singlethread performance not that fare off either. With the current trend being more cores is better in new games(BF1, AC:Unity just to name a few) perhaps that is worth considering as well.

Btw my haswell 4770k @4,35 and memory of 1866mhz 9-10-9-24 - CR 1T, scores in cinebench r15, 883 MT and 174 ST.

Personally if i had the money for an upgrade right now i would rather wait for 2018 and hopefully the next lineup from AMD and whatever response from Intel. While its dull being on a puny quad core i7 it makes no financial sense to upgrade unless its for the lolz or just to scratch that itch and that is something you are fine with throwing money at(i get that btw, any enthusiast will get that :) ) or of course if it is work related.
