4790k Idle Temps

just a thought.. when I had the H80i fitted to my gigabyte board there was a bit of slack when tightened up. I ended out fitting a few rubber washers between the motherboard and back plate to hold the cpu block/pump tight to the cpu.

can you try running the machine with the side off and apply some gentle pressure on the cpu block to see if this may be youre problem.

I know you said you have previously not had a problem but just with you saying you had a patch of thermal paste that looked as if it had not made contact to the cpu Im wondering if this may be the issue

I will try this later when i have the time. I will let you know what happens:)

Nope no change after applying pressure for a few minutes and the backplate is tight so i don't know, any more ideas. When rendering video it goes to 60c but idle its around 50c now and i don't like these high idle temps at all as i used to get them to be 30 max idle

They are 50 after boot, been like this two days have not rendered for 3 days but did a benchmark test it is maxed at 60, trying to update bios now but gigabyte bios are a pain, I will feedback after

For the h100i I only think the pump is working because the corsair link software, I can I physically make sure it's working, obviously it's a water hybrid. What should I be able to do to test if it's working

Sounds like your CPU aint idling, something must be running in the background, your load temps while rendering are only 10 degrees hotter which makes me think it aint going idle. Hit ctrl+alt+del start task manager and performance tab and check its actually going to 0% cpu load. Mine flicks between 0-1% when im idle.

I would agree. 60 during a benchtest is not to hot. same as video rendering at 50 I would say would be normal hence I asked what it was doing before you noticed the high idle temperature.

It's like spiking from 0-7, but I'm staying to wonder if it could be my pump not working. I can't hear any pump like noises but I wouldn't know what to listen for. What can I feel for on the pump to confirm if it is working or not?

After uodating my bios there is still no improvement. I will post an image of my coy usage tomorrow when idle but could not see anything using lots of cpu just all on 0 really

A few qs' -
What temp does it go to when you are stress testing it?
Is the vcore locked @ 1.185?
Also I guess you have disabled the thermal settings in the BIOS on the motherboard? I.e the intel downclock/idle C state stuff?

As a point of reference, if I have C states disabled then the temps are higher by a fair bit (10 degress) even idle and I have a H110 GTX and 4790k as well.
With it all enabled and adaptive voltage it's around 27-29ish with just a few webpages and steam open.

The temps go to around 70c and 60c when rendering which is good.

I think the vcore is locked but wouldn't know if it was?

Would you know how or where I can check the thermal settings?

I don't feel any vibrations or here any pumping

Here are my Temps

Though i am delid and water cooled :)
still your temps could be that you have power saving disabled, have a look and see if your power profile is on balanced or max power, if its on max power put it on balanced that should drop temps a little ;)

Hmm I will have to look at my power save options in bios, I have opened was a ticket with corsair asking about my pump problem if this is the reason

Hi, I'm going to list all my bios settings now for my CPU and Power as after putting the stock cooler in for testing the temps are 65c idle!!! I need help urgently please :(
