Ok lets get going with the pricing.
4790K Retail PROMO @ £260
4790K Retail @ £270
4790K OEM @ £275

Is there any reason the promo costs less?, OEM normally have less warranty and no cooler and cost less but as you can see its the most expensive, is there any reason like cherry picked chips or is it just crazy pricing.

And when getting a K chip i7 is Devils Canyon the way to go or dose haswell clock/perform better. i know DC was getting a lot of bad reviews when first out. i will NOT be de lidding but i have a very good board so i want a clocker

Thanks :D

No idea on the pricing bit tbh. But, haswell is usually used in reference to the first generation of 1150 chips. The 4770k being the i7 from that range. The devils canyon are a refresh of theese with a higher stock turbo boost clock.

4770k, base clock of 3.5, 3.9 under load
4790k, base clock of 4.0, 4.4 under load

If your board is Z97, either will slot in straight away without a bios update. If Z87, you will need the latest bios that supports DC. Either way though, id reccomend flashing the bios to the latest version as at stock some overvolt the cpu quite a lot.

oem normally is cheaper than retail .looks like an mistake again may be

OEM - 1 year
Retail box - 3 years

OEM - no sticker , no box or booklet - comes in a tray - known also as tray product
Retail- Nice box, nice sticker, manual with simple installation instructions and well packaged.

Retail are a few pounds dearer and not worth going for oem....

For the extra few quid a retail chip is better value just for the warranty alone...

Its not the first time I have seen the OEM version dearer than the retail variants, does seem madness though :p

What about the promo any reasons not to get that.

Yes because its got an ETA date which usually means its out of stock or the offer has been sold/closed.

Probably another mistake.

btw if you think the retail version being cheaper than the OEM is strange I saw it was £10 cheaper at a competitor and got free games bundle too for the retail version!
