4790k vs 6700k worth it for a board upgrade?

Hi I am sure this has been asked before but I can't find anything, maybe I am not looking hard enough.

I have a 4790k and I am using a gigabyte ga-z97x gaming g1 black edition, I can get a free upgrade to the z170x gaming g1 which gives me a lot of new features for free. Plus I like the look of the new board and quite fancy an upgrade.

My 4790k runs at 4.7 at 1.297v totally stable, if I changed to the new board I don't know if the new processor will be as good as my current CPU.

If I could only get 4.5 from the sky lake chip would it be comparable in performance to the 4790k?

You would also need to buy ddr4 ram. It depends on how much it would cost you to upgrade the rest of you components. Its only worth it if you really need the new features.

Very minimal gains by switching your cpu between those two, if you've got the money spare go for it but I don't think you'll notice much difference.

I would like the m.2 slots and the thunderbolt. It would only cost me about 130 for the upgrade depending on what ram I go for. The main thing is that I don't want to loose any performance due to the sky lake not overclocking as well.

You won't see any difference with performance at all.

Depends if m2 and USB3.1 etc is worth the cost. I'd say probably not.

I do prefer the look of the new board, the features are probably not worth the upgrade alone but the newer design and technology should be relevant for longer.

Just make sure to pair skylake with very fast ram as it aids the amount of fps you can get. I personally got 16gb 3200mhz from corsair as that is the most cost effective and plenty good enough at the moment.

Thanks, I will have to do some research on the ram to find the best balance between frequency and latency. The reason I am asking about the CPU is that without the free upgrade from Gigabyte I won't be able to afford an upgrade with parts that I could with this upgrade.

Don't worry too much about latency, skylake loves bandwidth from fast memory to perform best on cpu intensive games like gta v and witcher 3. The speed is more important than paying for better latency. No need to pay more than £90 for 16gb.

You won't see a joy of performance and depending on how well the Devils canyon is overclocked benchmarks may even be lower but again this won't be noticed. You can get full speed 4x3 m.2 with a 4790k.
