Hi guys, I want an upgrade from my 480. My budget is around the £150-200 mark. I can play all the games I have on high but I really want something A LOT quieter. What's the best bang for buck card at the moment?

-£150-£200
-nVidia preferred
- Cool & quiet

Thanks!

IMO there's nothing is your budget that's worth going from the GTX480.

You'd better off saving up and go for a GTX780, or a GTX770 4GB if you really can't push that far...but definitely not anything below them.

I agree with Marine mostly. For 1080P gaming the 680 2GB would be ok but even that is starting to show signs of struggle in the latest games like BF4, Metro LL and Crysis 3.

I would keep saving in truth bud and go for a 780/290 to make it worth while or hold out for another 6 months to see if the next wave of GPU's is upon us :)

Why not stick with the 480 and solve the noise with a Kuhler mod, your warranty must be gone by now so nothing to lose, could allow your some more time to save some money for a bigger upgrade, R9 290/290X - GTX 780 or upcoming GTX 880.

My 670 played fine with Crysis 3 and everything maxed.

Hi guys thanks for the response! Not had internet for the past few days so have not been able to respond.

I've just "de dust"ed the fortress and I tell you what, my 480 is quiet once again! Really happy.

With Xmas around the corner I think I would still like an upgrade around the £200 mark or is it best to wait and see what nvidia have for the next series? Will I notice a big jump from the 480 > 760 or something along those lines?

Should I be tempted with the 280X/770?

Moving to a 760 from a 480 (I've used a 570 as a comparison) will give noticeable (worthwhile) gains; a 280x (7970 used as a comparison) or 770 will be even more apparent :

If it's of any use, I upgraded a couple of months ago from a GTX570 SOC (so only a little faster than your GTX480), and have found the jump to an overclocked 7970 to be very worthwhile. So, any of the cards mentioned above will serve you very well indeed.
