4850 + 40lcd

just bought a cable to hook my 40 lcd tv up to my pc but for some reason i only get a picture for about 3 seconds then the screen goes black and says input a source will my ati hd4850 be ok to power a 40" lcd

A HD 4850 is fine.

What connection are you using?

What is the native resolution of the TV? Full HD 1920x1080 or something else?

the tv is running @ Full HD 1920x1080 and am using dvi from the pc to hdmi in the tv

Check the manual for your TV as sometimes you have to use a specific HDMI connector to connect a PC.

Ensure that you've set the output resolution to 1920x1080 on the PC and the refresh rate to 60Hz (assuming that's the refresh rate of the TV).

Go into the Catalyst Control Centre and set overscan to 0%.

Then check the settings using whatever display you were using before.

ive hooked it up to my 24" hdtv and its the same as your setting thanks for your help. dont know why it wont work on my bigger tv

update ive tried it on my 32" hdtv it works fine just not on the 40" tv

Make sure you're using HDMI 1 on the TV. From the user manual:

When using an HDMI/DVI cable connection, you must use the HDMI IN 1(DVI) jack for video.

If that doesn't work then try HDMI 4.

ive used all hdmi slots now still no joy it works fine on my 2 other tv's but not the bigger one very funny.

Try setting the PC to output a lower resolution and/or a different refresh rate before you plug it in to the 40" TV just so you can see if you can get any sort of display.

You can have a play around with the settings then.

Have you tried any other HDMI devices apart from your PC?

yes pal the sky hd + ps3 works fine just the bloody pc the main thing i wanted to work
