Have the option to buy the XFX model of either of these for £70 (Give or take a few quid) and I'm assuming the 4850 is more powerful, But how much more powerful? The cooler, Less power hungry and quieter 5670 is very appealing to me but only if the performance isn't too much of a sacrifice.

I think you should just go for the 5770 because 5670 is going to get discontinued..

well the 5670 is below the 5750 and the 5750 is on par with the 4850 give or take. So should make the choice simple. Plus the 5670, yea it has DX11 but whether it has enough clout to deal with it remains to be seen. Plenty of benchmarks out there mate, google is your friend. Anyways you can pick up 4850s for £45 second hand so wouldn't bother paying £70 for one now.

the 4850 can be as much as 50% faster in certain games and the 5670 is not going to be discontinued any time soon as its only just out.

£45?? Members market?
Are you even allowed to answer that question?

Judging by the Graphics forum at the moment, Everythings being discontinued:D

I have both these cards and as said before the 4850 is faster and at £45 used is good bang-for-buck.
I haven't yet really sorted out about the 5670, it is very quiet and uses less power, I would say it performs roughly like a 8800GTS 320. I suppose it's down to the res. you game at whether this will sufficient for your needs. ATM there are so many ATI cards I wonder if they are all really needed? Look there's another today at OcUK the 5570:eek:

5770's also going to be discontinued, as all the 5 series cards out now are, all going EOL as the refreshers are due in the next couple of months or so, the entire range is getting replaced.

Well MM is one place to get them, a couple have sold on there recently, however there's other places you can pick up second hand cards, MM does seem like a safe place to buy from tho.

Not going to be any sensible discussion in this forum for a while then :D

Very rarely is, turns into fanboy wars more often than not. Fun to watch but not very informative. However it was taking a turn for the better with the arrival of the dedicated ati vs nvidia thread to keep all the bickering in but now you've got ati owners fighting each other instead (with the 5850 vs 5870 thing going on now being the prime example).

you sure??? Not saying you're wrong but i thought this was going to be a case of releasing the 5890 etc. Not an entire new series coming out, because if that was the case what would be the point of releasing the 5830 at the end of this month?

hold on.............................. you're not building on the whole 5*** should be discontinued thing are you? If so get out!!! lol :p

I'm running a 4850 1gb and just cant bring myself to upgrade.

Obviously the newer cards will give me an FPS boost but I'm happy with the framerates the 4850 chucks out @ 1680*1050 and dont feel like I'm having to compromise on IQ too much just yet.

So for me get a 4850 but just try to get one a bit cheaper than £70.

Ahhhhh that thread! i did see it but soon forgot about it when the usual suspects got involved, this section of the forum gets tedious fast.

You had me thinking some whole new architecture was coming out, it possibly could but it doesn't seem likely to me seeing as we've still not had those 6 port 5870's out that AMD were displaying so long ago. However you have thrown a spanner in the works as i was toying with the idea of getting a 5850 soon but now i'm not so sure.

I want a new card for when i eventually upgrade monitor :(

edit: sorry OP for derailing your thread, personally i think you should try and source a second hand 4850 or 4870 as these are both in your price range.
