4850 woes

fingers crossed but if it still comes back the same, I'd suggest finding a friend who would be willing to help you diagnose it.

well waiting for monday to ask OcUK to pick up the 4850 aswell. will get a HIS ICEQ version instead, atm im playing with the 4850 running 640*480 managing 90, but thats due to the 3.4GHz E2140 :( the max i can go for 60 is 800*600, just remember, both of these res on COD4 all the settings are lowest that can go :(

well i checked my 24pin mobo connection and oine of the pins was a little out. i pushed it back in, and the 2900GT works perfectly again, BUT the 4850 still is not.

and i can see than pin numebr 19 is missing, and in the manual it is meant to be a white wire there, so an RMA for that. and my 2900GT only works through one DVI slot, so an RMA for that aswell. im going to cancel the mobo RMA for the moment.

Shot in the dark here but it's the only thing I can think of that hasn't been mentioned.

Have you tried updating the motherboard to its latest bios?

Edit:

Also worth a shot, after taking the 2900gt out reset the boards cmos (via the jumper or by removing the battery) before inserting the 4850.

good idea, i will try that.

will, i always have bad luck when it comes componnts.

my first self build had a ram problem, my next one had 3 DOA mobos, 3rd had a busted PSU, and for a good 3-4 upgrades nothing, untill i buy a brand new component :)

Yea same, allthough all my components seem to work, no matter how hard I batter then, but when it comes to overclock, I really am jinxed, I have bad overclocked Ballistix, GeIL, 4870, E6600, I mean it cant get any worse!!, I need to start buying second hand more often :p

Whereabouts in london are you mate? If you're really stuck and you don't live too far away, you're welcome to come round and swap some things round.

hehe, any second hand parts i have had are brilliant. this E2140 has hit 3.4GHz, no problem.

pieman, thank you so much, if you can, i am in cricklewood. just arrange a time, and ill come

As it happens, I'm off tomoz but I don't know what the missus has got lined up for me work wise. I'll be on lateshift from tuesday onwards, so any diagnosis would have to be done in the mornings.
Give me a call monday morning. Email sent also.

chers mate for the offer, but i now know its a mobo problem. pulled out my old P915 chipset mobo, with 2GB of DDR1 200MHz RAM, and a P4 3.06GHz, and my old 430W U-15 tagan PSU, installed cod4, and online running maxed out 1920x1200 4xAA 16XAF etc etc, solid 50 outside, in creak and downpoor (which drop FPS a lot) and inside hitting a 91FPS ceiling.

so yes it was a mobo problem, so RMAing that, AND refunding the 4850 and will get a HIS ICEQ version, OR a mate has an engingeering sample 4870 for £130 deliverd. deciding still.

i hope the P5K-E that is reutrned will OC as well as this one, as i got my E2140 (1.6GHz) to 3.4GHz
