4870 crossfire

The 4870x2 could trounce 2 4870's in CF.

I wouldnt trust that comment, look at previous x2 cards nvidia and ati,they have never out done a XF or sli set up as far as im aware,remember x2 is normally a way people with non sli or crossfire in this case,without buying new mobo, i have been duped into the x2 way in past and trust me its not as good as sli/crossfire (although in my limited experience).
Also im sure i read some where a AMD/ATI tech support guy said x2 wont out do a crossfire set up.

Just the opposite, AMD/ATI have said up to 15% faster than two 4870's in xfire.

Depends on how they are doing the memory and how the chips are linked together.

In theory two gpu on the same pcb ought to be quicker than using the bridge if done properly.

Plus the 4870x2 has double the memory per 4870 over the current 4870 cards. You don't know how much of an effect that will have either.

I thought the 7950gx2 was a pretty decent card. Was it not the 7900gx2 that was rubbish.

7950GX2 turned out pretty decent once they got the drivers upto scratch... the 7900GX2 was horrendous from all reports... clock for clock mine was identical to a 7900GTX SLI setup tho it needed hardware voltmodding to keep up at the upper end due to the lower stock voltage.

COD4 and others really fly though!

Will the addition of the second bridge give any additional (speed) benefit?

hi there i need to use 2 bridges because of the resolution im running at.
its 2560by1600.
