I brought the 4870 Listed on here,

I feel the Ultra low Price snapped me into purchasing this for my gf's computer, Now im starting to wonder if that was a bad Idea. The fan is really loud, I mean before Her pc was silent and the only noise was the buzz coming from the Tv screen. Ive looked into this and found that a select few cards have been programmed with no Fan controls in CCC or any other well listed Graphics tools.

The fan header it self Has 4pins, the fan has only Red and Black wires attached:(, no other control wires which also adds to my fustration. so even if I flash this thing I have to get a new cooler for it. Does anyone know of any fixes, say if I was to swap a wire and attach it to the 3rd or 4th pin this might give me a different voltage or control over the speed. even if its only a quick fix like altering the CCC profile to manual and set the desired speed after I swapped the wires??? I have no Idea if any of what I just said will work on this card. Real Naff Idea buying it, now I know why it was so cheap!!!:(

Theres no guarantee the pins are even connected back to any controller circuitry - most fans only have 2 connections anyhow on a GPU.

I guess the fan must be on 100% duty cycle - usually those kinda coolers are very quiet and good cooling efficency.

I've got exactly the same card, bought from ocuk. It's a good card, it just doesn't have fan control in CCC, nor does it monitor vram temps (vddc) in gpu-z.
You can control the fan speed in rivatuner. That's what I did. It normally runs at 34% speed and you can take it up to 100% in rivatuner. Personally, I didn't find it loud at all. Btw, if you fancy changing to an aftermarket VGA cooler, I highly recommend the thermalright HR-03-GT. Trust me on this, because that's about the only one that will fit this particular non reference 4870 since the cooler sits high enough to clear other components on the card, but it's also an amazing cooler. I'd bought the akasa vortexx neo and that didn't fit because of the rectangular black heatsink near the front of the card. With the stock cooler, I was getting 85c load. With the new cooler, 45c load, down to 43c on a very cold day.
