4870x2 direct replacement

you shouldn't of accepted either of these offers as none of them fullfills the the criteria for replacing your 4870x2! whats £180 supposed to buy you? and what use is replacing 1 card with 2 cards when you only have one pciex16 slot? no doubt you didnt put your case forward strongly enough! tut tut ocuk ripping off faithfull customers!

Well that was the deal from the boss himself.. and to think over the past couple of years i`am well into 3grand spent in that shop.... like i said cheers overclockers.

good news people! i rma'd my xfx 4870x2 before christmas and have just received a brand spanking 5970 in replacement!!! cant believe it! i thought they would try to fob me off with a 5850 or something pants! there is a god lol!!!

Very lucky. The 5970 is certainly not a replacement for a 4870X2 imo. If they had sense they would have sent a 5870. Hope you are getting along well with your 5970 :). Certainly a great upgrade from the 4870X2!

40nm top-end card is extremely costly to produce, so it's not that.

sorry to digress but ( this is aimed at a somewhat doubting Orangey) How do you know what the production cost of a 5970 is?
when the 4870x2 was launched it was roughly the same price as the 5970 yet 12 months later it was half the price yet they were still being sold at a profit!
Dont you think that is likely to be the case with the 5970 also?
just food for thought! lol

In a nutshell:

The people who actually make the things screwed up, as a result AMD get way less usable GPUs from a production run. Also, as the manufacturing process is refined, costs go down, which is why they are invariably able to charge less with time.

Got my answer just now, 2 months of waiting and Poowercolor have graced me with a whopping £140 credit. Tried to blag more off the Scam blokey but that was a no-go. If I didn't value my sanity I would take this further with Poowercolor/TUL themselves but they don't reply to mere end users / customers. If you don't have someone with clout fighting your corner (like Fatboy for instance) then you never get anywhere with them.

Lesson learned, never buy from faceless Chinese cheap-tat brands.

£140 for something that cost over £300 on release. =/

How can they get away with that though? At the very leaast they should have to replace it with a card of equal performance so that would be a 5870. And last i checked £140 isnt gonna get one of those, not even enough for a 5850.

Id tell them to shove it and press for something better.

I don't understand why people neglect the fact that they only ever have to give you money = to the current market value of your card or a card of similar performance and standing withing the set boundry price.

If everyone gave out new items or full paid for value i'd have smashed up my 14k 4 year old vauxhall Zafira and been happy with a new zafira or 14k back

it don't work like that never has it's down to the company therefore i would say it's your own fault for not looking into the companies returns, damages, rma procedures

if your that worried get a house insurance that covers full value breakdowns you'll pay through the nose for it though

and yes i've looked into it they do cover pc's/Parts
