I'm just after a bit of advise I have 4870x2 card and was wondering if I should get another 1 4870x2 which I can buy for £170 or am I better off putting me money towards a better card altogether

Why would someone sell a 4870x2 and go for a 5850?

Its not as fast as a 4870x2, ok it has dx11, but why anyone would downgrade just for dx11 is beyond me

What's the rest of your rig ?

I added another 4870x2 to my old q6600 rig and driver issues aside it gave very little noticeable difference apart from the heat and the noise - they needed an i7 rig to really shine

quad-fire isnt worth it, it dosnt scale well other 3 gpus. leave your rig as it is then upgrade the gpu when the ATI 6xxx series are out. or nvidia's next offering.

I will keep it... the question is do I double it up to quad fire or not ? any views

Phatzy says no.. I don't know which way is best, I got no trouble with me card just always like most people trying for that bit more

I'd say don't bother with quad fire, but tri fire I think would be worth a go. If you can find a second hand 4870 in good condition then why not. It won't cost that much. Might do it myself.

If you do this, make sure it's a 1GB 4870 though - a 512MB version would be a serious bottleneck with a 4870X2, as the lowest single GPU amount is mirrored onto the other cards. :)

are you saying put 3 x 4870x2 in ?
I only have one.. I was going to buy a second didn't think about 3 and can you put 3 in on my board

They were suggesting putting a normal 1GB 4870 in with you X2 not another X2 .

that would then be tri fire. (4870+4870X2)

which by all accounts scales well

Yes, that's what I meant. :)

Three of those? I wouldn't have any hairs left on my legs, be like sitting next to a blowtorch. I already sweat after a long gaming session in this heat. :D
