4890 1GIG DDR5 or GTX260?

Yeah. Kylew absolutely loves 1GB 4870s for some reason.

Careful, I just fixed my irony meter after the last guy sent it so far off the scale that it broke.

You can't even buy 192sp 260's any more, so I'm pretty sure anyone talking about 260's now means the 216sp version.

So? Since when did the 192 versions fall off the face of the planet?

Are you intentionally being obtuse?

GTX 260 216 overclocked is quite a card though and they do overclock pretty well and run quiet under load!

4890 all the way. Many gaming benchmarks conclude its the faster gpu out of these two and all for a very nice price ;) Nvidia, as good as they are seem pretty overpriced in my opinion.

*Sniggers* Can't bear to recommend a card that's quite a bit better than your own? As it is a 4870 1GB is faster than a GTX260 nevermind a 4890.

Excuse me? I have owned both new generation ati and nvidia cards, and i know what is better in my opinion. If you have a problem with my opinion, open a word pad and type away, because im not interested.

Ignore the resident ATi troll, I actually gave him the benefit of the doubt in this thread. But yet again he comes steaming in here with his petty and rude remarks, talking utter drivel.

Oh yeah, ATi troll because I'm not loving on nVidia as hard as some of you? You can dislike nVidia without being an ATi fanboy you know?

Some one recommending a GTX260 over a 4890 screams fanboy. There's £10 between them and the 4890 offers a lot more performance.

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2009/04/14/sapphire-radeon-hd-4870-2gb-vapor-x-review/4

Read that review and tell me why anyone would choose a GTX260 over a 4890 or 4870. It's not my issue that people have irrational love for nVidia.

ATi have nVidia backed in to a corner at the moment. Regardless of opinion of 'quality' and all that rubbish people say about nVidia cards, ATi are doing better at the moment. They have them beat on performance at the low-highend they have them matched at the middle high end but are beating them on price, and they are matched/slightly slower but really beating nVidia on price at the highest end dual GPU cards.

To state this can get some people worked up quite a bit, even though it's not true.

I didn't actually start to call people fanboys first, it appears the more irrational people started the fanboy calling first, and I'm supposed to be the fanboy?

That thread just shows that I'm not alone with my views. It's full of people talking about the self-imposed prestige nVidia gives itself.

You are aware that there are other posts in the thread against nVidia other than my own right?

The people that are 'pro wasting money on overpriced cards' are talking nonsense and bout quality and premium. Other than that it's people stating that they also think nVidia's pricing is ridiculous.

If I was an ATi fanboy, I would spout the general fanboy nonsense which usually comprises of lies, imaginary scenarios, purchase justification, rubbish they've heard from a fanboy friend and hilarious assumptions such as 'my fiend had a problem getting an ATi driver to install, but his nVidia driver installed fine, that means no-one ever has problems with nVidia drivers, but they can't even get ATi drivers to install'.

I've found that generally you get more nVidia fanboys because nVidia has more of a presence, it's usually the first brand that people new to computer hardware are aware of in terms of graphics cards due to nVidia's proactive attitude.

They practically tell these people who know nothing 'we're the best, our hardware is premium and quality, buy anything but nVidia and you won't have the best'.

Stupid people fall for that non-sense. nVidia may as well rename themselves to 'are the best regardless of truth'.

A lot of these 'new kids' don't grow out of this odd behaviour and irrational love for nVidia.

nVidia's underhanded methods just make things worse. It's ridiculous that they haven't been sued already for all the stuff they've messed up and had rants about.

You can tell the nVidia fanboys because they're the ones banging on about 'premium' and the fuss they make when anyone criticises anything nVidia as if they have shares or something.

I don't care if people criticise ATi, I'll say something when it's either a lie or a personal experience that someone is insisting is the only experience you'll ever have. Some people just can't handle having troubles with stuff that they can't fix, so they'll blame the brand instead of their own incompetence and act like no-one ever has driver problems with nVidia.

Oh ffs STOP ARGUING!

This poor guy simply asked which is the most powerful for gaming, and I think we can all agree that is the 4890, it's not a matter of opinion or fanboyism, it is just a faster card.

@kylew, you honestly need to get out more and stop taking life so seriously. I don't think anyone was seriously recommending a GTX260 over a 4890 as yes you're right that would be ridiculous. As for a 48701gb being far better than a GTX260-216, I challenge you to come up with at least a couple of different benchmarks and reviews which backs these claims up. From what I can tell the the performance is very similar, with no one card really winning outright. And please I never mentioned the word "fanboy" ;)

What is this getting out more you talk of?

You don't have to call me a fanboy outright for me to realise that's what you're suggesting. You called an ATi troll, what else would that mean other than an alternate way of calling me a fanboy? :o

My first post in this thread was in response to EdGey recommending a GTX260 over a 4890.

EdGey said:
id get the 260 personally. even though the 4890 is the faster card my a small margin.
