Seen the 6870 on Today Only and am thinking about getting one, not had a grafx update in a while, mostly because I have no idea what to get...

Mostly had Ati's and have a 2gb 4890 in my machine at the mo, which with the q6600 (not oc'd) plays everything i have at 1920 x 1080 mostly all maxed out...

(COD, BF, Supcom, Arma2)

Would it be worthwhile getting one, or just keeping what i have?

Cheers:)

If you currently play everything maxed out, I don't really see the point of upgrading. If you were to however, I'd wait for the 69xx cards to come out next month. It'd be a more worth while upgrade than the 6870.

On a side note you are probably not getting the best from your 4890 atm with your q6600 at stock. The same would be applied to any new graphics card you could buy as an upgrade.

Yea definitely overclock the Q6600. I was using a crappy nforce 650i board and only overclocked my Q6600 to 3.0GHz. I've upgraded my motherboard to Asus P5Q Deluxe couple of days ago and overclocked the Q6600 to 3.6GHz, and when I play Left4Dead 2, the overall experience feel a lot smoother than before when I was on 3.0GHz, despite I'm still using the same 9800GTX+.

I think some games just simply love the extra power from the CPUs.

My estimates...

6950-£260 on launch day

6970-£350 on launch day

6990-£600 on launch day.

Why do you think the prices will be so high ? :p

ATI would have to be silly to leave such large gaps in the prices. Nvidia would just slip the Fermi range inbetween.

GTX460 £220

6950-£260

GTX470 £300

6970-£350

GTX480 £500

6990-£600

Current prices for the 460 is £150, 470 is £200 and 480 is £350. I'm not sure where you got your prices from? Unless you're guessing at the prices of the 580 range?

I'm going on performance, AMD are not going to under cut or equal Nvidia prices if their hardware cleans up in the performance stakes, AMD are bigger than that now.

When does the 460 compete with a 6950...o_0

6990>6970>480>6950>470
