4890 common max overclock?

Looking round at 4890's and wondering what a common maximum overclock is for the core and memory? I'm looking at the Powercolor PCS+ which at standard is 950/4200 and reviews put it over 1000Mhz and 4400Mhz on the memory (that I recall). This is pretty insane speed, but just wondering whether it's worth it to buy this if other cards already easily achieve these figures?

Also... as a side note.. what's a common max overclock for the 4870 please?

I considered this when I bought my 4890 last week, solely on the speeds quoted, I then spoke to the sales guy who said gaming at resolutions of 1920x(can't remember this figure) would give about a 5% notable increase...so I opted against it because it only has the 1yr warranty.

That did put me off actually (only 1 year warranty), which is a shame as it seems heck of a card :D

From what ive seen 950 -980 is what most will hit, with many touching on 1000mhz mark and some getting well past. Most of the RAM ive seen used on various 4890's is rated for 1000Mhz so %10 over that should be no problem.

Decisions decisions lol.
Did that sales guy actually have the pcs+ card to sell is the question? If not i would have been wary.
Does seem like a nice cooking solution on there though and i doubt 950mhz would be slow even if i am limited to 1280 res at present.

Interesting :) I haven't checked the latest versions of Rivatuner in a while although that is what I use with XP Pro. Upping the voltage would be interesting :)

You will need to make sure you get a 4890 with the reference volterra memory controllers in order to increase voltages. Otherwise you won't be able to.

I believe the PCS+ uses non-volterra controllers.

lol, oh well.. bit of a pain that! Given that it goes over 1000Mhz anyway (at least in reviews) it might now be an issue.

So likely to get 1ghz anyway on a 4890. Definately worth it over a 4870 in my mind then. Just whether to spend this much money now or wait. (But that's always the question!!)

It looks like at least this card does use the VT1165 voltage regulator, and the memory the card comes with is underclocked by default, I guess that leaves you with quite a lot of headroom for tweaking.

Is that just the reference cooler on that xfx card? Looks better with 2 years warranty from OCUK, but reading other threads doesn't give me much confidence in turn around time on previos xfx deals (sorry guys).

looking good then. Xfx 4890 are dropping like a stone.

Are they considered generally unreliable then? Ocuk premium warranty suggests xfx have had problems in the past.

So save £20 getting the XFX one or have the better cooler and slightly faster clock speed with the powercolor, but not being able to adjust the voltage with the powercolor. What a choice!
