ive had this xfx 4890 1gb for about 2 months max it always runs hot at 60degrees idle and has been crashing my full pc to the point of restarting and not booting back up again.
i.e. the fans and cpu fan spins and the card was displaying 3 red lights.
i know after some reading this signifies not enough power but my psu is a 550w thermaltake purepower rx with 41amps on the 12v rail.
now the machine now just reboots without any warning lights staying on and i can get to desktop. these reboots only happen when i'm playing 3d games.
like when i play ghostbusters as soon as i get to be able to control a charachter the machine reboots, this game played fine on my 8600gt. batman arkham asylum was the culprit of machine reboots and not getting to desktop but this game now plays fine. all other games seem ok too.

dud g-card? not trying to start a nvidia vs ati battle but i wish id stuck with nvidia as i cant get good resolutions in most of my games with this card too like call of juarez the max resolution i get is 1280x1024.

i'm annoyed with this card and am on the verge of sending it back. the card has never been overclocked and my sytem is stock speed also.

my system spces are:
intel e8400
4gb OCZ ddr 2 ram
gigabyte ga-g31m-s2l
1TB samsung spinpoint f1(sata)
thermaltake purepower rx 550w PSU
pioneer dvd-r(sata)
creative x-fi xtreme audio soundcard
XFX ati 4890 1gb
Win 7 x64

bios

well thankfully it would seem i had some bad bios settings,
loaded failsafe and set my other setting and all is hunkydory. @BIOS musto been using last known good.

this pc is a htpc/gamer in my main room so it possible the tv has been on channel1# while the pc has been running on the hdmi in the background and the bios has been altered accidently by the missus.

ive now set a bios password so this wont happen again and am in the process of ramping my cpu up. just testing after 24hrs on 3.1ghz now on 3.19ghz. and sure i'll get this to 3.6ghz with my new arctic 7 cooler.

the reason i was worried as its been said these TT PSU's may not be too great but it was new at time of buying the 4890. i spent very little on this PSU so was a little worried. any further issues i'll update this post.

thanks for the input guys
