Hey Guys,

I'll be building a new rig in the near future (1-2 months) and seeing as I am an ATI fanboy, was planning on putting one of the new Radeons in for graphics, hopefully seeing a performance increase from my lowly 2900XT.

Basically, what I was wondering is A)Does anyone know when the HD5K series are launched and B) Is it worth me holding off and upgrading once they are released, or just getting a 4890 or 4870??

Thanks for the replies,

A) I dont.

B) If you hold off for tech then you basically end up waiting forever. Only if your upgrading and new stuff is days/weeks off release is it worth holding out for. Buy what you can afford as it will be nearing xmas when next gen cards are out.

Thanks for the reply.

I was thinking that if the new cards were out around say, August, then I would wait, but I had a feeling it was around Christmas. Guess that's that one sorted then :)

there should be 40 nm cards somewhere in end of 2009 q2. but they still will use dx10/10.1 probably more powerful then current ones

I would just go for it because new stuff are always coming out. And the 4890 is a very nice card, so you shouldn't have any performance issues for a good while.

Thanks everyone,

But i'm probably going to do as Loadsamoney has suggested, the 4870's are a lot cheaper and the Sapphire one seems to have a much better cooler that the ATI reference one the 4890's.

The Sapphires a cracker, got one myself, the coolers silent, and temps are very low. :)

I wouldn't go for a 4890 when the 4870 1GB and GTX260-216 are so well priced. I'd choose between those two, get 90% of the performance, and pocket the change. :)

As he said this (above) I would have picked the best value deal on the day of order, which if right will be around end of may maybe later. Right now I agree the 260, or 4870 is great value but who knows what prices the 4890 might be when he presses the buy button.

If buying from Ocuk then the 1Gb 4870 is the sensible buy, but the 4890 can be found for not far off the same money!:)
