4890 squealing under load

BFG are pretty good, I'm sure you can RMA but there really isn't a reason too, your replacement is just as likely to have the same.

And yeah B-Star take a look at:

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=121887

Vsync in the game locks you to 30fps rather than your actual refresh rate for some reason.

This can be fixed through CCC though I suppose, so you could just force vsync on in there and leave it off in games. Think that's the only viable workaround.

Yeah, something to do with memory I believe nowadays, such high frequencies, that's what I've read anyway.

Doesn't bother me though, it's hardly audible, as soon as I found out that it was normal I don't give a crap tbh.

Most 4890's have the problem, mostly due to the quad pumped ddr5 at high speed

Though if you're really that bothered about it take a look at this:

It's not just gtx280, a lot of high end cards nowadays are doing it, it's become highly common. I for one only hear the squeal on loading screens and menus so i'm not bothered. And if anyone is wondering, yes, the above link does show how to put nail polish on your card.

Mark me up for another squeals during game loads but not during the actual game. TBH, I had no idea it was doing this for months because it's not noticed with the side of my case on. Only first noticed it when I gamed with the side of my case off.

Does not annoy me at all. I thought they all did this?

A large percentage do, you'll be hard pressed to find one that doesn't, it's part of the design. Which is why I don't really advise people RMA as they'll just be without their card with no guarantee of any change.

My 4870X2 squeals when I fold on it. The rest of the time it doesnt. Doesn't really bother me thought tbh. It is just part of the design.

And I agree with the person above, some people won't replace the card just because of this. So be careful!

My X1900XT had coil/capacitor squealing. It is a common phenomenon. However, my card lasted just under 2 years before failing, but the squealing could have been completely unrelated.
