4930K crap processor

Hello

VTT tried both 1.1 / 1.2 no difference.
CPU at stock = No problem booting with xmp memory 2133 CL 9 1.5V. No problem running HCI memtest. As soon as I juice up my cpu issues start.
I cant keep a reasonable volt below 1.45 at 4.5 GHZ without crashing in memtest and prime95. Even if i set high volt like 1.5+ it gives error but not immediately.

So with that i think the cpu needs to much volt and is a crappy monday build :)

What board are you using?? Have you increased cpu current capabillity?

How are your temps?

No way should it need 1.32V to run at turbo, something is wrong there. Try running memory at 1866 which is the maximum speed IB-E are rated at.

Update: Just running prime now turbo mode: CPUZ reports 1.344 Volt. Temps are around 65C

This is with auto setting V-core in bios. Cant lower it then prime reports errors.
LLC is high. Otherwise default settings all else.

Board is ASUS rampage iv formula

This must be wrong???

OK guys, I was just in a chat with a Tech support at intel and I nearly fell off my chair when I read what he had to say about my CPU. So here please have a laugh :)

Chat InformationYou are now chatting with 'Alberto'
Alberto: Hello. Thank you for using the Intel Customer Chat Support service. We are glad to be of service. How may I help you?
Anders: Hello
Alberto: Hi
Anders: I just built my system: i7 4930K processor and it requires abnormal high voltage
Alberto: I'll be more than glad to assist you with that
Alberto: What kind of motherboard do you have?
Anders: Asus rampage iv formula
Alberto: What is the wattage of your power supply?
Anders: it is 1200W
Alberto: I see
Alberto: If you use one lower than that one
Alberto: It will not work?
Anders: Hmm. Have not tried that. I only have this one
Alberto: Ok, normally the wattage on the power supply could be 500 600
Anders: for sure it will work but I want to run my PSU at around 50% to get low temps and noise
Alberto: depending on the components
Alberto: I see
Alberto: The processor will take the voltage that he needs from the power supply
Alberto: *it
Alberto: to work properly
Anders: yes, but does the W of the PSU really afffect how much the V the CPU uses?
Alberto: No, it shouldn't
Alberto: But what is the voltage that is taking?
Anders: ok. my problem is then that this particular cpu I bought last week requires 1.344 V when running in windows
Alberto: The voltage for the processor should be 1.5V
Alberto: Ok, that is good actually
Alberto: normal
Anders: good?!?
Alberto: normal
Anders: hmm Due to the high V it needs for stock speed turbo there is no room for further overclock.
Alberto: I see
Alberto: Ok, the voltage fluctuates, it should be 1.5
Alberto: but it could be a little bit higher or lower than that
Alberto: like 1.3 1.4 1.6
Alberto: low
Alberto: If you are doing overcloking
Alberto: That will be different
Anders: so you mean 1.6 is safe for the 4930K?
Alberto: Since we don't support overcloking
Alberto: Not safe, but when you do overcloking
Alberto: It might reach that
Alberto: And since this processor is unlocked
Alberto: it might work
Anders: ok, i bought a intel tuning plan to replace the cpu. Do i just wait the 30 Days and send it to intel HQ in USA?
Alberto: Yes, that is always an option for you

Think it fair to say you have just got a bad one, sadly someone has to have one and you just been unlucky mate, just send it back and get a new one and hope for better luck, sometimes you just have to know when your beat mate :(

Well, yesterday i brought the cpu back to store. They have a 20% return policy if package is opened. So i will get 80% back from what i paid.
Also bought another 4930k. And lets hope as you say that I cant be that unlucky twice.

Gonna test it tomorrow.
BR Anders

Ok guys. Good news. Installed new cpu today and hurray this one is much better. Running prime errorfree as we speek at 1.3V @4.5 ghz. Will try and lower v later see how low the cpu goes.
The previous cpu was running 1.3V at stock 3.4gz.

I was able to get my 4930k to 4.6GHZ with a 1.36 core volt(HT enabled). Any after that, epic fail. 4.7 GHZ requres at leats a 1.45 corevolt to boot windows. I dont' get it. I'm thinking 4.6 is my safest so I'll stick with it. Ran prime95 for 12 hours, max temp was 70C. Speed step and turbo enabled, sleep works great. Coupled with a 780ti, it's a pretty quick system.
