I bought the new 4gb version a couple of weeks ago and I've found a couple of annoying points.

I've tried to play firefight on Halo ODST online with a friend and it says I need a hard drive installed to play. I get this trying to play the campaign with friends too..

Is there anyway around it? I have tons of USB pen drives I could use but I'm not sure how to set it up.

Suggestions?

I don't want to miss out on any Halo Reach action!

Pluig the USB drive in, then go to the settings, find memory and it should allow you to set it up from there.

I've setup a quick 16gb stick to use as storage which it recognizes fine. I've copied across my halo saves and profile but it still doesnt work.

I get this message..

For the older games, yes. Maybe on newer games they'll sort it (I doubt it though), but the older games see the 4GB as memory unit/internal storage, the games look for hdd. No hdd and it won't work. Even if the space is there, it just won't use it :(.

Ugh I guess I should have researched first but damn you MS.

If Halo Reach doesn't see it as storage I'll be so annoyed. (if any of you have it early with a 4gb console please check?)

I wouldn't mind if they had the extra hard drives for sale but it seems like an after thought.

@Memphis - I realise its my mistake, its still annoying though.

The hdd for it is coming, I'm pretty sure it's already available in the us, but it's the usual ridiculous price. Can use the old style on it though, if you take them out of their shell. Could always pick up a used one for cheap, take it out it's shell and use that on the 4gb.

Personally I think I'm quite up on what versions are around, and what the limitations are of each one. I wasn't aware that any games required a hard drive, storage yes but not specifically a hard drive.

I don't think anyone should have to "research" before buying a games console really, the fact that this can happen on such a popular franchise is a joke really and a testiment to the fact that MS are confusing people with the various SKUs they keep rolling out.

You can 'hack' a 250gb drive to work with it, thats what I've done. £25 for the drive so I've saved myself a few pennies rather than buying the 250gb console straight away.

I agree, it’s really silly. MS used to print on the boxes a HDD is required for all functions of a game, like they did on the cover of Football Manager 2006. Even more to the point, Bungie should have patched a popular game such as Halo ODST to see 4 GB as internal compatible storage for the new 360 console.

It seems ridiculous really. What's the point of going for a 4gb at all, if certain games don't work with it, and you can get the full whack for under £50 more? I was seriously looking at getting one until seeing this thread, but it just seems pointless now.

I wasnt aware of this. I figured hard drives were required for additional content. And to play games properly on a 360 you'd just need memory. Seems a complete **** take

exactly, a warning on the console that it wont play all games is a must.

The Hard drive required symbol on the back of games is hardly enough considering you generally purchase the console first. It's dumb and extremely wrong.

An Xbox 360 console should play all Xbox 360 games

TBH this is pretty shocking. I didn't have a clue about this and was thinking of getting a 4Gb due to preferring the matt colour.
