at the moment i have G-Skill 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600Mhz can i had just one more stick to make 6 gigs or do i need to add 2 more to make 8 gigs.

Hi there,

If you install a 3rd 2GB stick to take it up to 6GB total then it will work. However, your memory bandwidth will drop significantly as it will drop down for dual channel to single channel mode.

To preserve dual channel mode you can either add another two memory sticks (of the same frequency, timings and voltage as the existing sticks- if possible also go for the same make and model number ) or replace the existing 2GB sticks with a 2x4GB kit like this (and either sell or reuse the old sticks).
