I just got done watching the video linked above and it got me thinking....is there any point upgrading my [email protected] if i plan to take the jump to 4k?

So I'm going to be buying the 1080 ti with a 4k 60hz monitor and i was curious will my CPU be fine @4k for the most part?

I'm not that tech savi so maybe you guys could clarify something I've been wondering...

So let's say I'm playing a mmo in a populated area and my max fps is 30@1080p due to my CPU being stressed. Now in that exact same scenario at 4k would my max fps remain at 30 due to my CPU being stressed? Does moving to 4k add extra stress to the CPU for gaming or just the GPU?

I could upgrade my cpu, mobo and ram to the latest Intel processor but i have a hard time buying a refresh of a refresh of a refresh so I'm planning to upgrade my CPU when intel moves to 10nm.

There's no need, at 4k majority of the time the GPU is the bottleneck, unless you're playing CPU intensive games.

As TKav states, at 4K the majority of the strain will be on the GPU though I suspect your 3570 will be feeling the strain a little on some titles.

I would play one of your MMO's and have Windows CPU performance meter in the background and see if you're hitting near 100%.

If you really want to upgrade something then a, 3770k might help with some things you play.

From my own experiences using a [email protected] on a 1440p monitor and a 1070 card, I do not see the need to upgrade now for a pure gaming related setup.

I do believe that with the core wars going on between AMD and Intel, our fast 4 core CPU’s will fall behind quicker.
The thing is, by the time it starts to show, AMD will likely already have released their next gen 7nm CPU in early 2019.
I would much rather wait for that as a 3570k user then upgrading now, especially with Intel’s security flaws on their CPU’s and the high prices on DDR4 ram.

nah. If the 3570k can't do 60fps at 4k in the games I play I'dd just buy the 2700x. at 1080p I'm very happy with it's performance so i think i'll be happy at 4k
