Sooooo, There I was tracking a parcel (expected Monday) and see it sitting at the depot that is 30 mins drive from me.... I am a kid in a sweetshop with new toys and phoned up FedEX, who said I was more than welcome to come and collect it (Get in!!!)

An hour later and I am back and all set-up.

I will be giving this Samsung a thorough benching on a Pair of Titan's and a single Titan. Stay tuned (for those who are interested) to see the results of several demanding titles.

All games will be set to max details and I will be using the in-game bench marks if they exist.

Here is my results for testing with all settings set to the max in game.

Only a couple of those were playable and need AA toned down. I will be doing some more testing but with AA lowered where needed.

Single Titan testing to see how it plays on a single card.

Quick cuppa and will be right into it.

First impressions are brightness - Out of the box settings, it is very bright but changing the digital vibrance to 65% has made the brightness less and the colours go nice and deep. Compared to the Asus VG278H, it is identical in screen image and clarity but compared to the Dell IPS, it loses on colour depth. Not a bad thing at all and with some NCP tweaks, I will get the deep colours as good as the Dell.

Just benched Batman Arkham Origins with everything maxed (including PhysX) and it looks stunning in 4K - Frame rates however were low, with 35 minimum, 43 average and 54 maximum. I did another run with TXAA on full in place of MSAA and the results were much better with 44 minimum, 54 average and 71 maximum. Had a quick play with both settings and the MSAA on full felt ok but not quite fluid enough and a little unresponsive but switching to TXAA on full, the game felt very smooth and played very well. TXAA on max and a pair of Titans can cope in this game.

@ Bakes, check post #8 for a screenshot of desktop. I made the icons bigger as well, as they were silly small and AB also has the fot too small but thankfully my eyesight is still good and can read everything ok :D

Just tested Dirt Showdown with full settings (8 X MSAA) and good frames 50 minimum and 80 average.

As for dropping AA, yes it is noticeable (surprisingly), you can see edges but with AA, they are much smoother. More testing needed but AA is noticeable.

I just used CTRL and the scroll wheel to enlarge text to what I need Boom. I think it does the same thing.

Well in my testing so far, Two Titans cope ok but for the demanding titles, AA needs to be lowered. Dropping from 8XMSAA to 2XMSAA still gives a nice crisp image and smooths out the edges. When games are in full flow, they look very nice and you would be hard pushed to notice the difference with X2 AA or X8 AA in truth (I can't) but you can if you stand still in games.

As for benching, I will crack on with everything maxed, just so people can see what a pair of Titans get at full settings but the harsh truth is that modern AAA titles will struggle at 4K on a pair of high end GPU's, regardless of being Titans/780s/780Tis/290s/290Xs and you will need to lower settings or at least lower the AA a bit.

First impressions though is "WOW" Games look fantastic and nice and crisp. I have not noticed tearing but have noticed a ripple effect when the frames are low but keep the frames above 40 and it is smooth.

The colour is very good out the box and adding a touch to digital vibrance really makes the colours look nice and deep. The screen is very bright from the off and this is a good thing.

Very impressed this far and considering the price, what a fantastic buy and so glad I did it. 4K for under £500.... Need I say more on that?

Nice work there Greg! Looking forward to updates.

How does the screen surface compare to the U2713HM? Is it possible to take a picture of the two (both monitors off) side-by-side? Users have reported to me that the screen is 'semi-glossy' but in your first picture it looks like it could just be very light matte. You might just have your lighting particularly well controlled in the shot though ;).

The panel has the exact same finish to it as the Dell U2713HM. Not too glossy and a nice matt finish. I have a big window behind me that brings in a lot of light but even with the sun on the screen, I can read everything nice and clear.

My testing so far with all details maxed out and as you can see, very low frames.

I will do some more games but I feel they will all be roughly the same. I was going to do some VRAM testing but because of the amount of caching, this would be a little misleading and wouldn't be representative of what is needed. Anyways, more testing needed and I will get into some playable settings for each game. Just a point to mention, Sleeping Dogs doesn't want to play at 4K and exits after the first part of the bench. Not sure on the game but it will bench fine at 1600P/1440P/1080P but not 4K

As for the cost, I paid £1654 at launch for 2 Titans.

Do those same games with 2xAA.

Very interesting topic here as I am also interested in 4k.

How is color reproduction and panel quality compared to your other monitors?

Did you ever have or use a 1440? On overclock.net a guy said the jump from 1440 to 4k wasn't as great as he would expect and he said not to do it. a lot of other people disagreed with him but what is your opinion on this?

I will be running the same games (plus a couple others) with AA lowered to X2 where I can.

As for 1440P to 4K, I can't agree with the guy at OCN and say it makes a big difference. I have a top of the range 1080P as well as a top of the range 1440P Dell and going from 1440P to 4K is worth it for me. TN is very much rubbished by people but comparing the TN quality compared to the IPS of the Dell is very good. Black is black with the Dell and Black isn't with the Sammy but don't let that put you off and viewing angles are great on the Sammy.

How much will software affect these results?

Maybe with optimised games and drivers we can expect better results from the same hardware in the future? Or is it all down to pure grunt

Pure grunt. Software has a big part to play but at the end of it, it comes down to muscle and plenty is needed if you want max settings. The Titan Z will not allow max settings and playable frame rates, regardless of what nVidia say.

That is awesome to hear. How do you like the stand and the basic look of the monitor now that you have it? I actually loved how it looked in pictures, very modern and stylistic, but is it practical? Sturdy?

Well, I await further results and a full review from you, but I am glad you enjoy the monitor and I am glad that it is not a dud :)

The stand is rubbish and the monitor feels quite wobbly. I have my other monitors VESA mounted and this isn't an option for the Sammy. I knew that prior to ordering but I have spoken to a welder friend of mine at work and he said he can make up a bracket to support it with my current mount, so that will be handy.

Ran Titanfall with full details including insane textures andMSAAx8 and got min 32 average of 53 and max 61 (capped at 60fps). Played very nice and felt smooth. Did well in the round as well.

Playing Titanfall at 4K is awesome and looks stunning to boot. Games like that are what 4K is about and for me, I sat there smiling away whilst bombing about. :D

With Sleeping Dogs have you tried lowering the OC or even running at stock, I think the bench puts quite a bit of stress on the system as the resolution increases.

Any chance of a Heaven 4 run for the scoreboard, I am pretty sure you will top the table for single and dual GPUs @4K.:D

I will do a Heaven 4 run Kaap just for you :D And as for Sleeping Dogs, it just exits...No rhyme or reason with no fault codes, very strange.

1440P to 4K is worth it Boom. The price alone was my sway but comparing to an IPS, the IQ is excellent and has the added benefit of 1ms, which makes everything nice and responsive. No lag felt and no tearing (as of yet).

Just saved the images and viewed them in fullscreen, looks amazeballs.
I want one now!! :D

I felt so much regret when I bought the 1440 Dell, T and that was from the moment I played on it. Tearing or input lag was very evident but not seeing/feeling any of that with this Sammy. Maybe because it is TN but for some reason, it is very smooth and responsive. PCM2 might know the reason why it is like that compared to IPS but it just plays so nice.

Anyone who has considered going 4K and not sure if it is worth it...Do it. You will not regret it and under £500 for 60Hz 4K is an absolute bargain.

If anyone needs convincing...BF4 with everything maxed out at 4K

70fps is not to be sniffed at either and very playable. Zavod isn't that demanding mind but still very good returns.
